    SIG/HAMMERLI Trailside

The local gun shop has a SIG/Hammerli Trailside for sale. The owner stated the Trailside is not California legal. We checked the Olympic exempted pistol. The exempted list stated "Hammerli Trailside". There is no word "SIG". Just Hammerli. The owner stated the Trailside he has is SIG Trailside. It's not a Hammerli Trailside in the exempted list thus it's not legal to sell in California. The Trailside is a consignment. The owner is not a California resident. Is there such a Trailside as SIG Trailside or the gun shop owner is confused?

    Thank you for the reply,

I'm confused. How can the store have it for sale if the store owner says it's not legal to sell?

Can't sell handguns to non residents.Must be planning on selling to LE as off roster handgun. That could take a while especially for a high end consignment gun.

I think he's confused. All the trailsides are were made by Hammerli. Sig was distributing them but Hammerli built the frames.

even if it is a restricted gun not on the safety list, but it is a CONSIGNMENT, which would be done as a PPT, is it still possible to buy it?

Great pistol to shoot back in day when it was still on the roster. Was a entry-olympic grade pistol on a budget, but cost can climb if you bought the custom palm grip, barrel front weights, match sights, etc.

Yeah, if its a consignment pistol from somebody here in Kali, there is no reason why you couldn't PPT an off roster pistol no matter what the make. If its the store selling it, its a different story.

Yup it is Olympic exempt, and he is confused.

The Trailside was made by Hammerli which was linked with Sig until a few years ago when it was bought by Walther. It was imported/marketed/sold here in the U.S. under the Sig banner. Tell him to look at the markings on the right side of the slide...On the left side next to "Trailside" it says "Sigarms Exeter NH", but on the right side next to "Trailside" it says "Hammerli made in Switzerland".

The OP said the consigner isn't a CA resident.

I picked one up from another CGunner a while back and it shoots as well as my Kimber Rimfire and Tacsol Buckmaster. I just wish they made a nice steel magazine rather than a overpriced plastic one. Overall a really nice gun for the $$.

My wife purchased one, new, in-state (as a resident) about 3 years ago.

Distributed by Sig, made by Hammerli. Hers has the 6-inch barrel with counterweight and the standard grips.

If she can buy it legally in state from a reputable gun dealer, you should have no problem. They even came with 10rd magazines, so I assume there was a California-friendly version from the factory.
