    MP15-22 w/ or w/out muzzle break?

Pretty sure this has been discussed but I couldn't find. I'm close to pulling the trigger on buying the SW MP15-22. Perfect SHTF rifle as you can carry 10k of rounds! Question is, I can't decide on the standard MP15-22 or the MOE version that has the muzzle break? I like the looks of the break, but am afraid it will make the rifle louder? Not that .22 is loud, but one of the great pleasures of .22 plinking is being out in the middle of the woods by yourself w/out hearing protection. Does the muzzle break make this .22 too loud for this type of plinking? I like the features of the MOE version enough to justify the price difference, but the muzzle break is the only feature making me scratch my head just because I have no experience with them. I'm assuming I can take it off if needed and put a thread protector on? Will this effect accuracy? Thanks for the advice.

All the pictures of the MOE mp15-22 that I have seen do not have a muzzle brake. It looks like a birdcage Flash hider. it won't bother your ears like a muzzle brake will.

Yep just verified it. Not a muzzle brake its a flash hider. the S&W site has a 360 degree veiw so you can see the end. Birdcage flash hider.

Aha! Thank you! Not needed but I'm more apt to get the MOE model if there's no adverse effects of the flash hider just because it looks cool!

Turners has a special going now for the MOE version. Think around 550?

Go for it. If you get the standard version, you'll end up spending the difference on accessories anyway. It's a pain to get the barrel threaded later!

Turner's does have them, $539 I think. This and a Glock 17 are my only "to-get" list. Don't think it's going to happen before Christmas though unless I book a ton of jobs!

Yeah, if you like the Magpul furniture, then the MOE edition probably isn't a bad deal.

The norcal Big5's only sell the standard edition as far as i know, and even on sale a while back for $419 with coupon, I've put in enough little things that it gets close to the MOE price as it is... MBUS are like $89, Hogue grip (incoming) was like $20... If one upgrades to the Magpul MOE stock, that would be another $60 or so, but I'm fine with the regular M4 stock -- I'll just add a butt pad and a stock saddle probably.

Of course the barrel is not threaded... granted, I'm not sure that I really need a threaded barrel on a .22 rifle, but it wouldn't be cheap to add that after the fact if you wanted that feature.

I was at ammo bros, today, and took a look at the magpul version.
they're asking 549 for magpul and 499 for the std version
