Taking the barrel off a 10/22?

I am cleaning a family members 10/22 at the moment, and cannot get the barrel off for the life of me. This is the first time its been cleaned, and its a pretty new gun, the barrel clamp is off

Make sure the retention screw is out, underneath the stock, and you need to be sure that the safety button is engaged half-way between "fire" and "safe" for the receiver/barrell to be removed from the stock.

Take penetrating oil and put a few drops on the barrel from inside the receiver. Then use rubber dish-washing gloves and put the receiver between your legs. then just twist.

I ALWAYS have problems getting barrels off. Ive stuck them in the freezer, tried tapping it out with the bolt, etc. The only method that works 100% of the time is penetrating oil and dish washing gloves (or other rubber gloves).

Lay that sucker on a wood table or ?then have someone hold the receiver tight and smack the barrel at midway in the direction of the muzzle with a big rubber mallet. a few times

Blue or stainless?
The Stainless barrels are VERY tight -- I had to POUND one out of the receiver with a wooden block and a hammer. Every Stainless 10-22 I moded out had the same thing -- insanely tight barrel.

^ Yup...I use a wooden dowel to drive out the worst ones.

Must be nice. Mine just slid out. I cleaned everything up and epoxied it in for good. shot much better after that.

It almost seems like the barrel has glue around it... Its just a standard blued barrel, I nust wanna get it off... I'm gonna try the mallet idea tomorrow...

I had to tap mine out with a hammer + wood block.

You could try popping it in the freezer, then warming the receiver with a torch.
