Got an e-mail today with Turner weekly sale, they show a thumbhole stocked 21" "STS Heavy Barrel" stainless, w/Accu-Trigger, w/bases at $329.98 (off from $399.99) on sale tomorrow.

    Calgunners...tell me please:

Sounds like a BTVS. I have one. While it is finnicky about ammo, its a great shooter with Wolf Match Target. Look at my target posted today in the "October Rimfire Match" on this forum. Smallest 5 shot group @ 50 yards was .333 inches center to center. Make sure the barrel is floated and action screws torqued to 14-18 inch lbs (not foot lbs). I paid $415+tax+DROS about 6 months ago. $329 is less than used price on this rifle. I recommend it but be prepared to diddle with it some before it shoots excellent. Mine wears a Mueller APV scope ($125 delivered from JoeBobOutfitters.com) on Burris rings (about $50). Rifle will go to my grandson when I go. I think you have to move up to a CZ at least to get equal or better accuracy. Just my $.02, YMMV.

Thanks Izzy, great feedback. Much appreciated.

      Anyone else?

edited to add: Ya, I was lookin' at some CZ a while back...kinda itchin' to add a nice bolt-action .22 to the safe. Thinking we'll be happy with a good Savage if we don't go for a CZ. Hmmmmmmmmmm...

I hope this was a good buy since I went ahead and bought one at the Chino store. I have been tossing the idea around of buyiong a 22 rifle and this deal just gave me that push I needed.

I know yelling on the internet is frowned upon but "BUY SOME WOLF MATCH TARGET AMMO", a little more expensive than bulk 22 ammo but the satisfaction of shooting small groups in the bullseye will make you forget the extra cost. Champion Shooters is a good place to buy, cheapest when purchased by the case (5000 rounds). Get it before next year cause when the new law goes into effect, 22lr may be considered as handgun ammo, so 50 rounds a month is the limit in Kalifornia. Oh, and SK Standard Plus is the same ammo as the Wolf.

Savage makes a great rifle for the money. Here is mine 17HM2, but you get the idea. I say go for it.

Thanks for the tip. I already have a case of SK Standard Plus, another case of Lapua Master M, a few cases of CCI SV (S&W 41 gobbles it up), 1/2 case of Wold ME, and a ton of other off the shelf 22 rimfire. Now all I need is a scope and some range time to see what the rifle likes.

Any other tips I need to know onthis rifle? I will reading up on it on rimfirecentral over the next few weeks.

Thats a nice looking rifle. That is next on my list. I have 6K of Eley HM2 put away from when it was cheap. I dont even have anything to shoot it out of yet. Can you refit the Savage BTVS with a HM2 barrel?

Is this a special available only at certain stores? I don't see it on the latest turners ad

It was an e-mail that was sent. The sale price of $329.99 was for Wednesday only. Buddy here at work said that Turner's would give him that price today if he wanted it. You may want to call and ask. When they checked the stock in the wharehouse they had plenty to go around.

The only difference between a 22lr and a 17hm2 rifle is the barrel/chamber. The action, bolt, and magazines are all the same. I plan on shooting mine until I cant get ammo for it then just swap out for a 22 barrel
