Izhmash Biathlon Basic Rifle for Tactical Competition?

I would like to use a Biathlon 7-2-KO Rifle for tactical rim fire metal target events. The shots are fairly close (20 yards max) but speed is very important. I think the Biathlon 7-2-KO Rifle would do well given its fast toggle bolt, accuracy and small size.

Would anyone here have an idea on how to fit it with some "fast to acquire target" sights without a lot of machine work? I was thinking of some sort of express sights or maybe shotgun sights? I have no clue about how to go about this.

The rifle ships with a Weaver base and no sights. Thanks for any ideas...

How big are the targets? 20 yards is short, my bone stock 10/22 with Tech Sites and Wolf MT ammo, it groups around 1/2". Throw a few hundred more for a match grade barrel and stock and It will be alot better. If speed is key, I would think an autoloader would be a big advantage. I would look into the peep sites on the 7-3/7-4 biathlons perhaps they will fit.

Check out rimfirecentral.com regarding these. There are aftermarket biathlon sight sets available for them.

I have one, it is very fast to operate and shoot, as fast as a pump or lever gun. It is also very accurate. 10 shots in a dime size hole at 50 yards (with a scope).

MTGuns carries them in stock, they are in Santa Barbara I think.

A super accurate firearm is not paramount. You need something that points well, sights that acquire a target quickly and an action that cycles quickly. A semi-auto would be somewhat faster but that's also an entirely different class. I prefer manually operated firearms.

The peep sights on the 7-3/7-4 biathlons would not work well. This is "action/tactical" sorta shooting. They would be far too slow to acquire a new target as your were swinging your barrel across the stage. I was thinking perhaps some sort of "express" sights or many even something designed for a shotgun?

As nutty as it sounds, i would put a Burris Fastfire II on the Weaver base and call it a day for what you describe. Or mod some sort of ghost ring rear, and then you would have to fab something for the front.

Superfly has used a Biathlon to excellent effect at the local APS tactical rifle matches.

Good idea but I don't want to use optics as that's a whole other class...

Ruger 10/22 with a red dot if allowed, if not I'd put a UTG quad rail on it and some decent but not overly expensive BUIS on it.

As noted in posts #4 and #8 the S/A action and the red-dot are different classes.
