Thinking of getting a training bolt action rifle. Recommendations?

I have a savage 10fp (preaccutrigger) .308 in a bell and carlson tactical stock. Seeing how quality .308 ammo is over $1 a round, I was considering building a mock trainer in .22lr. I know it will not substitute for the real thing, but it'll still give me a general feel for days I'm feeling frugal. I'm looking for a cost effective option, that will still have decent accuracy. Most of my shooting will be at 100 yards.

I picked up a savage Mark II TR for this same reason. I put TPS low rings and a SWFA SS 16x scope on it. Very happy with it.

I've ordered a savage TR as well for the same reason -- you can get a LOT of 22 -- nearly 500 rounds for the cost of a 20 round box of match 308.

Since you already have the Savage 19 FP, the Savage MK II does seem like a good choice. However, another rifle to look at that has full size type dimensions is the CZ 452 series.

Another +1 for the CZ-452. The magazines feed more reliably than the Savage in my limited experience.

Better yet, check out the new CZ-455.
