    Old rifle fun!

Recently picked up an old (50 years) Remington Nylon 66 .22 semi-auto---remember them? The first truly synthetic firearm---way before HK and Glock---what a wonderful, fun rifle! Lightweight, very slim, totally reliable and shoots right to point of aim---whats not to like. Took it out yesterday and ran 300 rounds thru it (myself and two shooting buddies). Personally, I think this old design is better then the .22s Remington makes today (sadly, Remington quality has gone way south in recent years). I had one many years ago (traded a pocket knife for it)---this little rifle was used to train any new shooter that came my way---probably taught 100 women (and many guys) to shoot with it---very light, no recoil---and only sold it when an old pal was moving out of state and his wife insisted on buying it as she had very little arm strength and this was the only gun she could hold up and hit with. I looked for another, but they had become "collectors" items (check prices on Gunbroker) then the other day an superior condition 66 showed up with a fair price and I grabbed it. Took it to my shooting club and everyone who saw it started with their Nylon 66 stories from their youth. I will not be selling this one!

Excellent find! I never had a Nylon of any kind but did get to shoot a few. I grew up with a Stevens Single-Shot. Just yesterday I picked up a Nylon 11 that was on consignment in a local shop. 99 BUCKS!!! Beautiful rifle and I am sure yours is a keeper as well!

Yeah, the first real gun I ever fired was a Savage/Stevens .22lr over a 410 shotgun (both single-shot)---I must have been REAL little because I liked the .22, but the 410 kicked the snot out of me! Good grab on the Nylon 11!

A guy at work asked me to do something with his little rifle. A, J. Stevens Little Scout 14 1/2. It is a single shot rolling block. Had lots of rust and pits from rust. I cleaned it up, re blued it, re did the stock, the only thing I need is a trigger guard. I took it to the range last week, it is a fun little gun. For those of you looking for parts, try this. They also have stocks and mags.

Nylon 66's are great rifles; I have an Apache Black/Chrome model I've had since I was a kid.

Nothing beats a marlin 39A. mine looks like it was drug behind a truck, but still shoots great!
My Mossberg 142A is a honey as well.
Never could warm up to the 10/22

I started shooting a single shot Springfield .22 about 57 years ago. The single shots will shoot short, long and long rifle.

I love my Winchester 1906, it's pretty worn but complete. The serial dates it to 1919 manufacture date. Fun gun that can shoot 22 short, long, and LR.

I guess this is a bit of a milestone. I never really thought of the Nylons as "old guns" because I remember when they came out as the newest thing - remember the advert of the pile of 1" wooden blocks that fellow was sitting on showing how the Nylon 66 needed about zero maintainence? Tom something - Frye maybe?

I have several of the nylon type Remington .22 rifles. They are a lot of fun to shoot.

How to make a guy feel old! I remember when those came out as the new way to make guns. They have a big following of loyal owners and ex-owners.
