    Mossberg 702 Tactical .22LR

Has anyone seen one of these or used one of these before? How was the build quality and how did it shoot? I was looking into a fun plinker like a M&P 15-22, but with the Mossberg 702 Tactical at only half the price of a 15-22, it's tempting to just get one of those and play with it, even if the quality isn't that great compared to the S&W.

Any opinions or experience with the 702, preferably the Tactical model? The $239 price at Turner's this upcoming week looks really tempting. I called the Turner's nearby me to see if they had one in stock so I could check it out, but they said they didn't have any but could order one from their warehouse.

I don't think these are really available yet since not even Mossberg is listing it from what I can see on their website. I checked a couple of other places and they're pretty much the same as Turner in that nobody had one but you could special order it.

Unless someone else knows better on this?

And there is a reason the 702 tactical is half the price of a 15/22. The 702 Tactical is basically a Mossberg 702 Plinkster (previously imported from Brazil as the MagTech 7022) in a dress-up kit, similar to the Ruger 10/22 and the SR-22.

+1. I have heard some people who have had no problems with their Plinksters and others who cannot run a 10rd full magazine through one, so they appear to be a little hit and miss.

The Plinksters are very inexpensive. A couple of months ago, I saw one in an AZ Walmart for $107. The design is loosely based on the Marlin 70 receiver, except with a different feed / firing mechanism design.

I have the Magtech 7022. It is the predecessor to the 702 plinkster (Mossberg bought the design and started making them as the 702). Mine runs great with the 2 10 round mags I have for it.

That's a shame. Mossberg used to make the best shooting .22lrs that one could find at entry level prices. The days of lead lapped barrels on cheap .22s are gone.

Mossberg don't actually make it. They have a licensing agreement with Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos, and import the rifles from Brazil with the Mossberg Plinkster name on it, with changes and variants to meet Mossbergs specs. This happens alot, eg. The Winchester Wildcat .22 rifle is actually a re-named Russian-made Tula TOZ-78.

Hey guys, I saw this rifle too on the Turner's ad, did a search on the internet, and this is the only site that even mentions the Tactical version, it's not even on Mossberg's site. I'm just wondering why it's so cheap? I want a .22 just to have fun with, and the price seems right. Let me know if any of you pick one up.

I just got back from turners, west covina and I must say that Im not very impressed on how this 702 tactical was built. For the price and if you are on a budget I guess its as close as you can get to a .22 tactical rifle. BUT... I would save the extra money if possible to purchase either the Colt M4 .22 or the S&W 15/22. The features on the Mossberg has a FAKE charging handle that does nothing as well as a fake forward assist which is also just cosmetics. The feel of the stock/rifle is all plastic and feels like its an airsoft type shell that was fitted over the rifle. Of course... this is just my opinion, but I would rather spend a little more to get better quality. BUT... if you're on a budget, spending $240 cant hurt compared to $500+ The bottom line is you pay for what you get...

thanks for your 2 cents, speeedracerr, have you seen the Archangel kit they have at Turner's for the Ruger 10/22? It's also polymer, guess I'll go check it out and see for myself. I was just wondering if anyone thinks I'm better off getting that Ruger with the Archangel kit than the Mossberg 702. I just want a gun so I can go varmint hunting.

Well speeedracerr, I think your opinion of the Mossberg was dead on, I think the stock was actually fiberglass. The Archangel kit is polymer, but still feels A LOT better than the Mossberg, and the M4 felt just right.
