New guy planning on appleseed

Hi I'd like to go to an appleseed and start really learning how to shoot a rifle well but i'm also pretty low on cash currently. I wanted to know how accurate a .22 rifle should be to be useful and a good learning tool at an appleseed? I know "the more accurate the better" but what's "good enough"? I have a .22 conversion kit for my ar. Would that work? I know a lot of guys use a stock 10/22 but I don't know how those compare with a conversion kit. I can't afford a dedicated 22 upper right now, but don't know if I need to invest in a new 10/22?

The smallest targets are about 2" x 2". Range is 25 meters, about 27 yards. That equates to about an 8" pattern at 100 yards. If your rifle can do that, the rest is up to you

I earned my rifleman patch at the first Appleseed I went to back in NY, I did so with a stock 10/22 with the simmons 3-9 power scope that came with my savage and the sling I took off of my issued M4 lol. Unless the gun is shotgunning all over the place so long as you do your part you'll be fine. My suggestion is make sure to bring at least 4 10 round mags as that will make the qualification part go easier. While many .22s come with crappy iron sights, the tech sights seem to be pretty good.

If you end up attending the meet in Oct. at Burro I'll let you try out my 10/22, I've made some adjustments to it recently, should make things even easier. I might take the AR as well but I only have enough ammo right now for two attempts at the qual.

I plan on taking my wife, shell be using a Saiga converted AK74 and I a PSL, should be fun. What are the most common rifles used?

You really are best off using a .22 like a 10/22. You will shoot about 500 rounds so shooting .22 is very economical. In addition, the recoil is nil so you wont get beat up.

I got my 10/22 on sale at the Turners spring sale for $149 and a box of 500 rounds of Blazer for $25. I used some free earplugs I picked up in a hotel and a towel I found in the garage as a shooting mat. So yeah, you can really shoot the Appleseed on the cheap.
