Whats a good .22LR rifle?

Im looking for a good rifle to plink with but also that is very reliable, Also what is the effective range of a .22lr as far as penetration goes, and what would be a good scope to mount on said rifle?

10/22 by Ruger, you can keep it basic or go full hog on how much you want to customize it. As far as scope, again what do you want from the rifle for basic plinking I have a 4x32 Simmons on one of my 10/22's the rest I just run iron sights.



And because it needs to be said 22LR are RIMFIRE, not Centerfire rifles. The Rimfire forum is probably gonna be more help.

Here are 2 of mine. They are Ruger 10/22's. Ruger 10/22's have been around since the 60's and there are a ton of aftermarket products for it just like an AR15 does. Mine go bang every time and shoot straight enough for 22lr work. There may be cheaper or more accurate 22's out there but none are as customizable as a Ruger 10/22 and thats the funnest part of owning one in my opinion.

Get a Ruger 10/22 or a Marlin 60.

But my recommendation is Ruger 10/22

For just casual plinking I'd go with a marlin or Savage in stainless steel. For distance purposes/penetration the outter edges of the envelope would be 100 yards using hyper velocity rounds.

If you have an AR-15, get a Spike's ST-22 upper with LW or GM barrel.
