Buena Park Walmart had a lot i find it everywhere. I only keep 3 boxes of it for my MKIII target for when i want to make tight groups

Federal automatch? I've never seen any at my wm ever. I ended up buying some when I went to visit my brother in tx. How much does it cost at wm?

like 4 in groups at 50 yds...
rem green box will do 3/4 in at that range...wolf 10 shots you can cover with a dime...
if it will shoot in your gun...great...you can have the ammo I'm not buying...

I just picked up a Box of Federal Bulk(550) a box of federal target (325) and a small box of remington subsonics (50)

all 3 were around 36 and some change. They also had the winchester bulk, CCI(all flavors).
Local rancher suuply store had some off brand was like 9.99 for 235 rounds Looked like a cheap brand...might give it a try as the kids like to try and machine gun the marlin..the kids are my Girls 10 &12....may have to go get an assault type rifle in .22lr format like a M&P 15-22 or similar...this will allow them to get a few more rounds off...but they will have to reload the magazines as well. Thinking this might slow them down

My own experiance with Federal Automatch AM22

Last month, I bought two boxes of Federal Automatch (AM22) from Cabela's (they have since gone out of stock there).

I then did a side-by-side-by-side comparison between the following three Federal 22 ammunition types from various "vintages":

Automatch AM22 (mfg 2010) 325 round loose bulk packaged
American Eagle AE5022 (mfg 2006) 50 round tray-in-box-in-brick packaged
Champion 510 (mfg 2003) 50 round tray-in-box-in-brick packaged

I did the same test in two hanguns:

West German SIG P226 with SIG 22LR Kit
Kimber Stainless II with Kimber 22LR Kit

Maybe I will take pictures of my targets (no laughing! ), but for now I'll give you mostly relative and qualitative findings.

I shot about 100 rounds of each ammo type through each handgun, 40 feet, 4-inch black bullseye, rested butt of gun on benched pistol rug, 6 o' clock hold:

Automatch AM22:
Produced the tightest groups in both guns, with the least vertical stringing. (Maybe my 6 o'clock hold isn't perfect, but i was doing the same thing for all loads). Not a single failure to fire on the first strike, with either gun. One stove pipe with the Kimber. The expended case did not clear the ejection port, and the next round did not chamber (It could have been caused by my damn thumbs on the side of the slide. I'm too used to doing that when shooting the regular slide). All reports were identical, as were all muzzle flashes (if any, the 4" SIG barrel had some, the 5" Kimber barrel had almost none).

American Eagle AE5022:
Produced the loosest groups in both guns, with the most vertical stringing. In the SIG, 10-15% of the rounds failed to ignite on the first strike, about 1 or 2 in every magazine. A double action 2nd strike, without rotating the round in the chamber, usually ignited the round. Two did not ignite at all, even after rotating the round 180-degrees in the chamber. With the Kimber, all rounds ignited on the first strike. No stovepipes in either gun. Most reports and flash were identical to that of the Automatch AM22, but about 5% sounded slightly weaker with less muzzle flash.

Champion 510:
Produced groups comparable to Automatch AM22, but with slightly more vertical stringing. In the SIG, I had about the same rate of failure to ignite on the first strike as with the American Eagle AE5022, however, all of these rounds ignited on the second strike without having to rotate the round in the chamber. In the Kimber, one round failed to ignite after the first and second strike in the same spot on the rim. The round was rotated 180-degrees and struck again, and it ignited. No stovepipes in either gun. All reports were identical, as were all muzzle flashes (if any, the 4" SIG barrel had some, the 5" Kimber barrel had almost none).

I am led to believe that the Automatch AM22 ammunition has a softer rim than either the American Eagle 5022 or Champion 510, and that my SIG has marginal firing pin power to ignite the latter two loads (leading to the occasional need for a 2nd strike), and barely enough to ignite the Automatch AM22 100% of the time, on the first strike.

Does anyone know whether the cases are manufactured differently between the different Federal 22s?
