    Next 10/22 upgrade ~Trigger work?

    Hello all,
If one were to dress up a plain jane 10/22 and decided to do this with some order of ROI ( Return On Investment), what would come after restocking (Hougue rubber-ized), then getting some nice glass (Leupold) for up top.

So my question is what would you do to get a more pleasurable shooting experience? (ie. Drop in Trigger such as volquartsen). These drop in trigger guard assemblies seem quite convenient

I did not change out the stock barrel due to the fact I like the idea of possibly using the iron sights if something were to fail with the scope. I couldnt really find an aftermarket barrel that still retained the usage of iron sights. Please point me to the appropriate place if you know of one. I never found one.

    Thnanks,

    Simple 10/22 Mods.

A few simple mods. can make your 10/22 function damn near as good as one with 100s more $ sunk into it. This one performs almost as well as others that I have with much more extreme set-ups. And for some reason this one is equally, if not more, fun to shoot.

    A little trigger work.
    A little bolt work.
A simple (and cheap) Simmons 22 Mag scope.
A UTG scope mount that you can leave on if you go iron sights.
A barrel float (stock and barrel band) that you can do yourself.

To get you in the ball park all you need is a barrell, stock and some decent glass. I don't belive trigger work is necessary myself.

^^^ Unless one wants a smoother, lighter trigger pull. It's not very difficult to do-it-yourself if you have the inclination and a couple of better quality parts.

Or, instead of new parts, you could just tune-up your existing parts:

Submitted By: Antlurz The 10/22, in some cases, suffers from a less than positive cycling action of the bolt, causing stovepiping, and in the case of low velocity or specialty ammunition, it may even fail to complete the cycle, leaving it uncocked for the next round to be fired. There is an...

The newer 10/22s with the plastic trigger group bodies have awfully stiff triggers.
I've been very pleased withe the Power Custom hammer, spring and shim kits for around $40. For new guns, you will also need a pair of the hammer pivot bushings ($10) to install most hammer / sear upgrade kits.

            10/22 mods:
            Optics and mount
            Extractor--replace or clean-up (new guns)
Extended mag release (new guns come with these).
Auto bolt release--replace or modify your original one.
If the bolt travel feels sticky and rough, you may want to get a new recoil spring guide.

Thanks for all the replies. Just to answer from a post above, I would like to keep my stock barrel, due to the fact if I ever needed my iron sights they would be available to me. This option is missing from most (all that I have seen) aftermarket barrels.

Insin, check out Hornet Customs drop in trigger group. for the price, the whole thing drops in very easy and leaves your stock spare to mess with. For 107 bucks, it reduced it to 2.75 lbs. After I dissasembled it and polished the surfaces, it's now down to under 2 lbs! Regarding the barrel, there are a few options for iron sights. First check out Tech Sights. they have a great setup for the 10-22 and everything it threaded mil spec for the AR15/M-16 so changing sight posts and peeps are simple. Some manufacturers will machine a 3/8 in dovetail to accomidate front sights if needed. Volquartsen did mine on my THM barrel.

Contact Nemohunter on RFC about working his magic on your stock barrel.(Ask him or "Que" about bolt work also.) I received mine back from him and the improvement was incredible. I have only had it out once since he worked it over and shot it at 25yds. Here is one of the five shot groups using SK standard plus. Before groups were about 2.5" at 50yds.

I am going to pillar and bed the action next and see if I can get it to settle in a little further. I have some groups that 4 shots went into .08ish then a flyer would open it up. Bedding the action should help eliminate the flyer issue.
My gun shoots like this using all the stock factory parts. I have worked over the trigger group with stones and polishing media. Que worked over my bolt.
The gun is a real sleeper, which is exactly what I want.

Don't forget the Volquartzen extractor, I think it's called the "Exact Edge" or something like that.
