    Sig 522 airsoft cheek rest

    Now, compare that to this...

    Note the price difference...

I was finally able to obtain one of these airsoft cheek rests and have it installed on my rifle. What a difference - it is super-comfortable and it looks bad as Hell! (IMO) It's stamped "SIG" too.

Several months back I had seen a post (not sure if it was on here or another forum) where a member had aquired one of these and installed it on his 522. The photos that he posted of his rifle had the cheek rest mounted backwards and, after receiving mine, I see why he did it that way; the front of the cheek rest is too narrow for our stocks - it does fit and it does clip onto our stocks when installed backwards and it is 100% serviceable, but it simply doesn't look right. (if one wants it to look like the way that Sig designed it to look and fit the rifle...)

I spent about a half an hour with a steel cutter in a Dremel and removed a little bit of material (about a 1/16th of an inch, uniformly) out of the inside of the front of the cheek rest and it fits the 522's stock PERFECTLY. The modification did not affect the rest's appearance at all. It clips on the way that it is supposed to and comes off when force is applied to it; one has to "yank it off" to get it to come off the stock - it won't fall off when your out slogging around in the field.

Buy one of these if you haven't already. You will not regret it.

looks good! I assume it still folds and locks without any binding/trouble?

Thank you and no, in order to fold the stock and lock it down, one has to remove the cheek rest - but it's designed to be removeable.

What was your total cost from airsplat with shipping? I am having trouble finding it for sale on any other website. Was really hoping I could find a site that sells both this and the king arms railed forearm...

A friend of mine and I ordered two of them and shipping was, like, $11.00 and change... the total was $23.77 for mine. Airsplat ships fast and we had them in less than a week.

I had a really bad experience with a place called "EVIKE" that claims to sell airsoft parts. If they were the last place on Earth that had something that I wanted, I would still keep trying to find it someplace else.

As far as I'm aware, Airsplat is the only one that has them in stock at the present time.

On something like this, if it works who gives a crap if its made for airsoft. Optics and such are a different story.

My cheek rest arrived today. Fabrication isn't my strong suit. And since there is no undo button on a Dremel, I'm interested in the exact steel cutter(s) to use and if there are any other hints to get a good clean shave.

                      Thanks.

Keep fitting and refitting the cheek rest to your rifle throughout the process to make sure that you get a good fit. It's better to "sneak up on it" rather than hogging out a bunch of material and then finding out you removed too much.

I used a tapered. round-nosed, bullet-shaped cutter to do most of the stock (no pun intended) removal on mine, but found out later that I had just as good (if not better) results just using a 3/4" sanding drum.

I went back into the inside of mine after I posted these original photos and was able to remove a little more material out of the top of it - even into the top reinforcing rib - and got it to snuggle down onto the stock even further.

The sanding drum will have a tendency to "pile up" melted plastic. Just wait for it to cool down and then it will snap right off.

Use care when removing material with a cutter on the inside of the left side of the cheek rest; the cutter will want to crawl/walk onto the outside of the piece. Mine got away from me and I nailed the left side of mine by accident, after I took the initial photos of it.

I'll post more photos later today if you want me to.

Thanks so much for the great advice, Mike. I'm now much more confident about the project. If you have a shot of how much plastic had to come off the rib, I'd be interested. :-)
