Clip-on bipods on a .22?

Hey calguns, I recently got an old marlin glenfield model 25 bolt-action .22 with a 2-7x33 leupold for all of $100. It's pretty basic as far as accessory mounting goes. I have a bipod here that attaches to a weaver rail, but I don't want to really drill any holes in my gun to make the bipod attach to it. I've been looking at a bipod online that clips to the barrel.

My question is this: Would the accuracy of my .22 be affected by the use of a bipod that clips onto the barrel? I've heard that the less is touching the barrel, the better.

If you don't mind the bipod messing up the finish on the barrel then you are fine. Those clip on bipods will play hell on a blued barrel and leave a little wear on a stainless barrel.

Does the stock have a sling swivel stud installed? If it does, go with a Harris or something like that so you don't have to mar the finish on the barrel. Even if you had to have a set of sling swivels installed, it would be out of line on this type of rifle. It would definitely look better than a weaver rail screwed to the underside of the stock.

Just got mine from Midway and it's as advertised I guess... a flimsy, but it gets the job done if don't want to do any drilling.

Yeah, it has the front sling swivel stud (tonguetwister!)
To attach a Harris bipod, would I just remove the ring on the sling swivel stud, or the whole stud?

You would need to remove the ring but leave the stud installed. It attaches to the stud.

Walmart has a Harris knock-off for $40+tax. I have two and they work fine. Easy on and off and does not mar the stock.
