    Escutcheon for 10/22 need it?

I'm building up a 10/22 and I'm going with a Fajen adjustable thumbhole stock. The factory stock has a brass escutcheon where the take down screw is. I notice that the Fajen stock does not.

Will it be ok if I don't use this escutcheon? I bought a taken down screw kit and it came with a escutcheon. I'd have to drill the stock out to get it to fit but I'm afraid the take down screw won't screw in properly if I do so.

From what I gather the escutcheon is there to maintain torque because the plastic stock gets softer when it heats up, I think... The Fajen stock's plastic seems more dense than the factory stock.

If the diameter of the hole is smaller than the escutchion but close use a little sandpaper on a dowel to slowly enlarge the hole then work on depth. The escutchion is used to provide a hard point to anchor the stock to the action. Some people have a loose fit and bed it in some leave the hole a little small and press it in with a small bolt and nut and washer. Go over to rimfirecentral.com and search the 10/22 stock section for "action screws" lots of ideas and instruction.

Hadesomega, if your original 1022 stock came with a metal stock butt, I would be interested in purchasing it. Mine has a plastic one that I would like to replace. PM me if any interest.
