M&P15-22 Range Report Ammo Compare PICS

Hey everyone. Had myself a great day at the range and thought I'd share how my 15-22 went through a bunch of various ammos and share pics of my targets. I did all of my shooting at an outdoor range at 25 yards with 0 wind. I shot from a very solid benchrested position with a NcStar 3-9X42 scope. All groups are 10 rounds shot at 1 inch stickers. Exception is the Rem GB was shot at a 2 inch sticker because I ran outa 1 inchers. Scope was zeroed using Win 333 ammo so ignore group placement, what counts are sizes. Ammos tested:

    Federal 550 Bulk Pack
Remington Gold Bullet 550 Bulk Pack
    Winchester 333 Bulk Pack
Winchester Super X .37 Grain High Velocity Hollow Point
CCI Mini-Mag .36 Grain Hollow Point
CCI Mini-Mag .40 Grain Round Nose
    CCI Stinger Hyper Velocity

Looks like for my 15-22 CCI is the Bees Knees while Win 333 is gonna be my go-to econo class..for now....I still want to test these loads at 50 75 and 100 yards to see whats best overall as far as trajectory consistancy over a 100 yard span. As far as the reliability goes, I shot close to 600 rounds that day (lots of metal target plinking) and I did not have one single failure, not one (Very Happy). My only gripe is DON'T buy the Barska Red-Dot electro sight I have!! It sucks! Adjustmets are crap and it does not stay zeroed. The NcStar scope works very well. Only problem with it I had is if I removed it from the gun and put it back on, I would have to re-zero it. It would be off by about 1-2 inches each time. But as long as I did not remove it, it stayed perfectly zeroed.

good stuff.. I had to play around with a lot of ammo, CCI Mini's, CCI Blazer, two different kinds of Federal, Remington (gasp)... CCI Mini Mag/federal stuff worked the best. thanks for the report!

        Great report!

I'm shocked to see such a difference between the 333 and the Federal 550. Especially since I have mountains of the Federal in my garage

Anyway, all of those are "minute of potato", that's all that matters when I take my wife & kids out shooting.

BTW, I feel the same way about my 15-22 - it's an incredible gun and is always the life of the party when I take it out. I hardly get to shoot it anymore, someone else always hogs it!

Nice report: thank you for sharing and doing the testing.

I have some Super X, a lot of Remington GB, and a ton of CCI (I buy 1,000 at a time when Able's, Lucky Gunner, or elsewhere emails me it's in). I need to do the same test with my Sig 522 and my .22 LR for my Sig P229--though it's best to stick to CCI with the latter I'll bet.

Very nice... I also like the 333's
Gonna have to take a look at the CCI's.

            Thanks for the info.

Before you write off the Federal stuff test it. Mabe my gun likes the 333 and yours likes the Fed stuff. I heard a few guys have had good results with the Fed 550 bulk.

Hey Scuds I have a question for you. Do have magazines with the Blue Follower?. I just got two shorty's from Smith and Wesson direct and they have the red follower and the load assist tab. I just got done cycling rounds in the gun and it seems to me the red follower doesn't feed as well as the blue one.

I don't have a 15/22. I have a Sig 522, though, and it has run through a little over 500 rounds of CCI (MiniMag and Blazer) without a hitch. I cannot tell a difference between the MM and Blazer so I stick with Blazer.

Well I just got back from Target Masters. I love the fact they are opened until Midnight. I ran just about 250 rounds through my 15-22 and with all three magazines. I had only one stovepipe. So I am relived that everything went smooth. I shot 100 CCI Mini Mags and I liked those the best. I was a bit more accurate with everything else but I like the increased recoil of the Mini Mags.

I have been using the regular long type 10rd mags with the blue follower. I wouldnt use the load assist that may be to cause of your problem. If you dont keep tension on the bullets as you load them they wont stagger right in the mag. You should load ur mags like is demoed in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9krQs31e6L4

I also have the S&W 10-rd magazines with the orange follower. I use the load assist button just to relieve pressure on the stack when loading, I don't let the pile get loose. Has worked 100% over about 500 rounds.

Mine also runs a tad bit better with 333 than fed bulk. It seems to really like aguila super extra, which I find unfortunate because I can't stand the smell of the stuff.

I'd like to try that ammo but don't know where to find it. I'll be sure to buy a nose plug if I buy some haha.

Besides online, I don't see it locally. A friend gave me a few boxes a while back which he had sitting arround because he sold his 22.
The stuff smells like burning plastic to me.

But it did perform rather well. Even the the recoil felt better. More consistant and predictable than cci even.
