I have a 22/45 MK II and I had about four failure to feeds out of 120 rounds with cci mini mags. I was thinking with so few rounds it shouldn't happen. Anything I can do to help prevent that?

22/45 failure to feed?

The number one thing to do to a 22/45 to improve reliability is switch out the stock extractor with a Volquartsen or Power Custom extractor. My 22/45's had jams occasionally until I switched out the extractors. They cost about $10-12 or so from Brownell's/Midway etc. and are simple to change out. I switched them out on mine and I really don't have malfunctions anymore. The only problems I've had since then have been ammo related (dud Remington gold bullets that don't go off). Federal bulk pack ammo works near perfect in the 22/45 and is good quality ammo for the price. You can also slightly round off the 4 sharp edges on your magazine lips with a file or Dremel and that will help improve feeding also.
There is a lot of good information about 22/45's and all Rugers on www.Rugerforum.net. When I first got my 22/45 I did a lot of reading on that site and learned how to do all the modifications to the 22/45 myself. Good luck.Last edited by jdg30; 07-24-2010, 8:30 AM. -
Thanks for the extractor info! My 22/45 was driving me up the wall. Between the difficulty reassembling, the "pull out" mags and the mag lock, this pistol is starting to get on my nerves. Actually haven't shot it in a few years. At least it's sparkly clean! Didn't want to get it dirty again...Comment

yeah, i have a 22/45 also. same problem. i've changed out my extractor and that corrected the stovepiping problem. now i'm getting FTFs with hollow points. solid round nose bullets seem to be fine. my problem is the hollow points keep getting sliced and stuck on the feedramp. i've seen the sites that show the mag mods you can do but i haven't tried that solution yet. i think i'mma give it a try. i'll let you know how it works out.Comment

Polish out the machine marks on the feed ramp and dull the chamber edge just behind the feed ramp. Do not over radius that edge, too much can cause case ruptures. Wrap 400 grit wet dry around a jeweler's rat tail file and remove the sharp chamber edge. If the round is jamming on the feed ramp, open the feed lips a little.Comment
