For the 10rnd magazines, you don't need to purchase rebuild kits. But if you're looking for hi-cap magazines (+10 rnds), I don't think they have rebuild kits for those since GSG 5 rifles/pistols and magazines were made "post-ban". CA law only allows you to purchase rebuild kits for "pre-ban" hi-cap magazines. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a vendor, who sells hi-cap magazine with a 10 round limiter, but I don't know any. Just trying to keep you from getting in trouble.

I asked a guy if a 25 round magazine was legal for my 15-22

Here's a question... I have a S&W 15-22... if I am in possession or use (in Taxifornia) of a 25 round magazine am I Okay or in potential trouble?

You can in fact own and buy rebuild kits for a GSG as long as you only assemble and use them out of state. You cannot assemble them in this state.

They carry the GSG-5 mags.

An assembled GSG mag greater than 10 rounds is 100% illegal in California. There is no way to use an assembled high capacity GSG mag in California since the mag nor any variant of the mag was available prior to the ban.

Seems like there is a lot of misinformation flying around here. You can legally have a 30 round magazine for a .22lr if you had the magazines before the ban. This is impossible because the gsg-5 didn't exist before the ban. If you are thinking that buying a rebuild kit and assembling it is a legal way to get a 30 round magazine, you'd be mistaken. Manufacturing a "high capacity" magazine in California is illegal no matter what caliber it's for.

Essentially, there is no legal way to have an assembled 30 round gsg-5 magazine magazine in California.

That being said, if you want a rebuild kit as a cheaper way to create a 10/30 mag, that would be legal. Although I honestly don't know how much cheaper it'd be, if at all.

A 10 round GSG mag is already essentially a 10/30. The overall size is the same as a standard 22 round that comes from the factory in free states. It looks like the only difference is a groove in the body that allows the thumbstud and follower to fully compress.
