    S&W 15-22 question

So I was one of the unlucky people who had to send my 15-22 to S&W to get the extractor problems fixed.

My question is... what should I expect when the 15-22 comes back? Does the FTE problem completely go away or will it just be more infrequent?

When I turned in my 15-22 I experienced 10 to 15 FTE on about 200 rounds...

Is FTE an inherent problem with all .22's?

I can only speak from personal experience. My 15-22 has worked nearly flawlessly since I bought it. I've put ~1200-1500 rounds through it. I've had so few failures that I didn't bother to count (that means 4 or less).

My personal opinion is that if you get your rifle back and it doesn't perform like mine, you should keep riding S&W until they make things right. All things considered, you probably spent over $500 on the thing. Accept no excuses.

I must be lucky, but my MP-22 has been extremely reliable so far, about 2000 rounds.

I only had a problem using remington ammo, because its crappy. Switched to Federal and Winchester bulk, and CCI and all the ejection problems went away.

I must be lucky as well as I've tempted fate by using some craptastic remington and would suffer a rather occasional fte. Maybe one out of 100?
My biggest problem was they just performed horribly.
Win333 no problems at all though!

Well, hope ur issue is solved quickly. S&W seems to be GTG with their customer service.

mine is the newer series with different extractor, but i still get fte's. I'm going to try the CCI bulk i just bought. It's getting less the more rounds i put in there though.

OP - From what I've read here and other forums is that when you get your 15-22 back from S&W it should work fine and usually they replace the springs and adjust extractor pin, etc., etc., plus you may get a free mag. I guess I'm one of the lucky one's too -- my 15-22 has a DTM serial number, no blue springs or any other upgrades that the newer models have and has worked great out of the box. I did check the extractor pin as per the youtube vid but didn't adjust it since I didn't have FTE problems. I broke mine in with several hundred rounds of CCI Mini-Mags and Velocitors with no problems. But since then it's been on a steady diet of bulk Federal and Winchester. Although, I must admit I had 2 FTE problems when I loaded up a mag of old Remington Golden Bullets I had on hand -- dirty stuff, too --never again! To date I've probably shot over 2000 rounds through mine. My buddy has a Ruger 10-22 and it shoots everything he feeds it. I guess the 15-22 is kinda finicky so break it in with the good stuff and find a brand of ammo it likes.
