I would suggest a Ruger Mark III or Walter P22 (The P22's like CCI Minimags)

I would go with Ruger or Buckmark, they are both solid shooters and there are tons of upgrade parts and accessories available if you choose to hot rod it later on. I chose the Buckmark since I was going to replace the barrel with Tacsol and that was not an option on the Ruger since the Ruger serial # is on the barrel.

Also I agree on the Trailside, I have and it's one of my favorates and really nice shooter for the price. But the Buckmark with 7" fluted barrel is sweeeet.

when all things considered the BuckMark gives the most bang for buck. You can do a professional trigger job for free, just flip the sear spring, makes a very very sweet trigger. The tacsol barrel is available in CA for the ruger it is not available. The older used models have many, many, options for affordable grips. You can buy complete replacement parts from Browning for about $10.00 Browning customer service is A+. Resale value is A+ the Buckmark slide is open on both sides making for very easy of FTE rounds.

A Smith 617 is hard to beat. I love to teach new shooters with mine because .22 ammo is so prone to jamming in any .22 auto, but the revolver just keeps on ticking. They are also very accurate.

I have a Buckmark 5.5 Field as well, and I can't say anything bad about it.

I suppose if we're talking wheel guns then Ruger Single Six would be another good choice if you're into single action guns. It's fairly accurate, no too expensive, nice classic looks and best of all, swap out the cylinder and you're shooting .22 mag.
