I have a CMMG that I like a lot. Is it tack sharp, no, but it's perfectly adequate for the short indoor range I use it at where it makes absolutely zero sense to waste .223. From what I've read, the stainless steel version is considerably better for about $30 more.sigpic -
I've got a ceneir or however you spell it, they're great. No sense in letting my sons waste 223 on soda cans when they can just spray 22lr like nobodies business. I also have some SHTF fantasy about being able to shoot two calibers in one gun too. I say get one.sigpicLord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

I also have a Ciener. It required some polishing and recontouring on the bottom of the bolt in order to run smoothly. The bolt stop tends to contact the bottom of the bolt on some rifles. The other option is to reduce the height of the bolt stop; a fair amount can be removed without compromising functionality when the rifle is used with a 5.56mm bolt carrier group.
Spike's, CMMG, and Ciener are all very similar. Some are more ammo picky than others. My Ciener runs just about anything, but functions best on Remington Golden Bullet. Accuracy from a 16", 1-9 barrel is approximately 4 MOA (4" @ 100 yards) from a rest. 1-7 barrels can be less accurate, early M16/AR 1-12 barrels should tend to be more accurate.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

I picked up my Ciener years ago before the Spike's/CMMG conversion came out and had no issues with it as long as I keep it "lubed and clean". It's not new and shiny but but it'll eat just about any cheap ammo. I have/had dedicated uppers and lowers but now that I'm thinning down on my guns, I'm selling off all of my dedicated uppers and putting my Ciener on overtime.
A conversion on my retro 20" 1X12 does pretty nice grouping so I wouldn't miss my dedicated uppers.... I hope.

Why would the stainless model be any better? Neither should corrode if properly taken care of...I have a CMMG that I like a lot. Is it tack sharp, no, but it's perfectly adequate for the short indoor range I use it at where it makes absolutely zero sense to waste .223. From what I've read, the stainless steel version is considerably better for about $30 more.Comment

Couldn't tell you. I've just read that. Mine is all lubed up and broken in(TWSS), and it works flawlessly with the right ammo.sigpicComment

Get a Ceiner kit. They are the original makers and got it right the first time.
Ive been using a standard ceiner 22 conversion kit in our full auto colt ar-15 in AZ, and it hasnt skipped a beat. Even full auto emptying 30 rnd mags in seconds runs flawless.
Im buying another ceiner kit for a dedicated upper I have since they run so well."If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so." - Thomas JeffersonComment

Fascinating...
If anything the SS model should be more prone to seizing or galling. Must be due to the initial polish as you suggest. Time to get the Flitz...Comment

The Spike's conversion has the double o rings. How important are the o rings?Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

$119 .22 CMMG conversions. I just picked one up. My wife has one she bought used and it shoots bulk federal .22LR copper coated rounds with almost no issues.
