I like the 556 because i can install a bipod (vertical grip) via the Weaver base. That is the only reason why. Other than that, I like the oem hand-guard.Comment

If anyone is interested I just took the factory 556 stock off my rifle, and will be placing it in the for sale section tonight. It is the same as the one in the lower picture.Comment

I like the Swiss style stock better, to me it just feels more comfortable. Rails can be easily attached to the 522 type stock if you need them. On my early 556 I did attach a Harris bipod but just couldn't get use to the feel of the stock so I switched them out for the 550 type and the rifle instantly felt better.Comment

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

556 hands down & it's got much more utility to it with the functional rails
