    Ruger 22/45 accuracy?

I just bought a used Ruger MK II 22/45 and took it to the range last weekend. I ended up having some issues with accuracy. Now I havent shot much pistol before and I learned rifle on my 10/22. Just not getting the kind of accuracy I was expecting out of the handgun( or myself)
I was just wondering if theres anything I can do to help improve my accuracy? Maybe a red dot sight? I do have a scope mount for the gun but no scope for it yet.

The 22/45 is very accurate without a red dot or scope. I actually prefer the normal sights on the gun instead of that stuff. Sounds like you need more practice with the gun.

I would suggest a red dot sight on it, i have a red dot on mine, and i can hit anything out to 100 yards with it. wally world has a decent tasco red dot for i believe $60. You wont regret it, your probably pulling the trigger instead of squezing it,Only use the pad of your trigger finger and pull straight back..

ammo will play a large part in the 22/45 accuracy. Try a bunch and see which ammo it likes best.

How are you testing its accuracy?
              A couple of things:
              - the pistol is harder to shoot off a rest than a rifle, so you need to pay more attention to setting up a good rest. If using sandbags, try resting the barrel too.
              - W/o a scope it is very hard to keep the same POA on each shot. It is much easier to put a scope on it just for the test. A red dot is similar to irons but makes aiming easier on most targets but will not be as good as a scope.

I assume that you lready know different .22LR ammo makes a big difference wrtr 3" vs 1" group since you already shoot a .22LR.

Steelis fun to shoot (and that's what I mostly shoot), but I've found it doesn't improve you in the accuracy department. For accuracy improvement, you need to shoot paper and analyze each shot.

I shot Federal bulk, CCI mini-mags, CCI Stingers, Aguila Super Extra, and Wolf Target. Maybe its because I put almost 500 orunds through it? Got a little dirty? I also had a few jams that dented the tip of the bullet making it useless.

I painted the back of my front sight blade Red and it made
it much easier for sight acquisition.

I picked up a 22/45 when it was on sale at Turner's. My first trip to the range the sights where off a bit. Second trip to the range I adjusted them and the gun is amazingly accurate. At 15 yds off hand, best group I had was under 2" and that was using Federal 510. If the sights are good I'd say just practice and get use to the trigger and shooting a pistol.

What does your target look like after shooting? Is it patterning to the left, right, up or down? If you can tells us a little more then maybe we can help you.

Should be pretty accurate. You may just need more time/practise. With a RDS on mines I was able to hit a duck target (~2"x2") at 50 yards with it pretty consistently yesterday.

Check the sights. My rear loosened up and was way to the side. I could not figure out why it was shooting off to the left, even after I adjusted the sight all the way. Then I asked someone else at the range that was a good shooter and he immediately saw the problem.

I've only shot Federal bulk pack on ours. At 1st it was all over the place after the 3-5 magazine it started grouping better. BTW our sights were on pretty much set out of the box.
