Went out gopher hunting and my buddy brought his marlin 60 with. This gun hadnt been shot since 1996. First problem was the safety wouldnt slide off. We forced it and then it will shoot but you have to force the trigger forward to reset it. I took it off and even seperated from the rest of the gun it is very stiff. Sprayed cleaner and oil on it but it never cleared up. ANy ideas on fixing? Or a good place to get a replacement trigger group? Thanks Jeff

marlin model 60 trigger probs

Sounds like it's just dirty and maybe rusty.
Go to YOUTUBE.com and look up how to fieldstrip an Marlin model 60 and follow the directions on the video (MAKE SURE IT ISN"T LOADED - CHECK 2 OR 3 TIMES - WAY too many people get shot with "unloaded guns"!!!!!!!)
Once you have the trigger group out, if it's contaminated with rust, you might want to replace it. IF, however, it's just dirt and old grease and SOME rust clean it up like you would any other rusted part - penetrating oil, oil based solvent, scrub brush, and some elbow grease.
While you have it field stripped clean the bolt and other moving parts as well as the upper receiver - same way.....
Oil with a good quality gun oil, reassemble and kill some gophers!!!!! I HATE gophers!
Good luck
another Jeff
