I don't think you'll get any type of accuracy at 200 yards. The .22LR is just too light and too slow.
I can't believe that even after I posted something about there being a difference between "accuracy" and "precision" that someone still got it wrong. "MOA" has absolutely NOTHING to do with "accuracy".

"Accuracy" only has to do with hitting close to your POA. "Precision" has to do with consistantly hitting in the same place (or close to it).

That said, Kimber makes a hell of a .22lr and I'd love to pick up one of the CMP Kimbers if I had the extra funds right now. But, I doubt it would shoot any better than the old Mossbergs do.

For your price point. Marlin 925 and a Mueller APT. Under $400 and the Marlins got the T-900.

Just got back from big 5, one of the marlin bolt actions is on sale, I want to say it was the 925, for $179. I was looking at semi autos so didn't look too closely at the model number on that one. Looked like a good deal

Thanks for the pictures, but I think you understand what we were talking about. And yes, "precision" is right.

Looks like we have a couple of good options from this thread. Thanks guys. Does anyone know of any local places where I can find a used Mossberg (or should I find one online and get a local FFL for transfer?)

I sent this guy a PM within seconds after he posted it for sale:

If he's closer to you and someone else is not aready in line, it's worth looking at. I'm not sure of the model yet so, it might be a great deal or it might be priced fairly. We'll have to wait and see.

              .

Sorry, for not reading your earlier post; I usually just read the OP's question and try to answer it.

I learned most of my shooting on firing line at various matches and a few classes, so I'm sure many of my terms aren't super correct. That's how we talk and I've not bothered to research. Anyway, thanks for the detailed post.

OP, I just noticed that you are in the bay area. I'm in the bay area as well.

I used to shoot some smallbore benchrest and can introduce you to some shooters. You can check out their equipment.

Unfortunately I sold pretty much all of my .22LR rifles, but still have 2: Kimber 22 pro varmint and Anschutz 1712. You are welcome to try if you meet me at one of my range trips. These (although not super accurcte) can easily do 1 MOA at 50 yards. (CKSCannon When I say "accurate", please substitue "accurate and percise"
