    GSG-5 report, WTH?!

Okay, so I got a GSG-5 along with my two brothers and my bro-n-law. We gotta pretty good deal on em so we all decided to buy one each. Anyways, I got the chance to take my GSG-5 to the range on sunday and man that thing is a blast to shoot!

Anyways, about the end of our range my buddy who never shot a gun before in his life finally gathered enuff courage to shoot the GSG-5. I teach him all the basics and safety....he steps up to the line and aims and finally shoots one round...click....nothing...I tell him to point the gun down range and I check the safety and make sure its fine. I release the mag and theres 9 rounds. One chambered so I pulled the handle and nothing came out. I was like WTH?! the extractor didnt pull the brass out so I had to use a cleaning rod to push the 22 out. After I got it out I checked and everything was fine.
He steps back up to the line and pulls the trigger. SLAM FIRE! It went 3 shot burst! I told him to give me the gun.

I finally checked and I see that the bolt assembly was loose. I took the gun apart and i guess ATI didnt assemble the GSG-5 that well because the plate that holds the entire bolt assembly came loose! I installed that part back on and my friend had a blast afterwards!

So, now my question is....wth made it go 3 shot burst?! I know what did, but how?! it aint good althou cool! HAHA..

The bolt carrier group wasn't locked in battery so the weapon continued to slam fire until the "plate" (I'm assuming you're refering to the bolt stop?) jostled around enough to finally interfere with its motion/length of travel. It just happened to crank off three rounds before quitting.

A guy on AR-15.com posted a similar experience to yours about three-four months back. Pretty sure that it was his bolt stop coming loose too. Locktite is our friend.

Mine got finicky with manual extractions too after about 1300 rounds through it. What was weird was that it would still extract perfectly while being fired. Go figure. A good thorough cleaning cured the problem completely.

I think the GSG-5 is a really cool little plinker and I'm glad to have one, but it's kinda poorly made and subject to "quirks." I have the bolt/nut kit in mine and found that the gun actually functions better if bolts/nuts aren't completely tightened down (while still using Locktite) so that the action is somewhat "sloppy." I found this especially true of the forward most bolt/nut in the bolt carrier group halves; if it's completely tightened down, the bolt will not go to battery at all.

Yeah, they should of at least locktite the bolt stop. When I took it off it was completely free of any type of "locktit" on it..I guess ATi wanted us to do that part ourselves?
Great gun and fun to shoot none-the-less!
