    10/22 bolt lock removal

hey guys so i dremmeled out the bolt lock on my 10/22 and it didnt turn out like i wanted. it works when releasing but locks open atleast 3 times per magazine. so i was thinking about removing it all together.

my question is, would that produce any issues with the rifle or should i be o.k. removing it..

Why would you want to remove the bolt lock? Buy a replacement & put the rifle back the way it should be.

Buy a Volq. auto bolt release and put down the dremmel.

get a professional replacement.... cause that bolt hold open feature is useful for line breaks.

or at least compare yours to those aftermarket replacement and see where yours is wrong and dremel it to look like theirs.

yea, just spend a few(literally) bucks and get an aftermarket one which is tried and true.

Here is a picture of one that I dremmeled. The one on the left is the modified one, the one of the right is the factory one. It's not a hard mod to do and there is no reason to buy an aftermarket one if you are so inclined to make one yourself. I've bought them already done before and dremmeled many of them myself. They all work the same.

That looks ok. Can't think of a reason why that would cause the jamming you're experiencing. You're certain it's the latch that's locking the bolt back?

First, since nobody else said so, I'd congratulate you on trying it yourself. Only way we get good experience is by trying new things.

Second - the Volquartsen release is good but there are others (I think) that aren't as expensive. Any gun show or Brownells will have them all listed.

Shouldn't be to hard to fix. 10/22 is a great all around gun - had mine since 1978....

eh buy one online. Its like < $20 with shipping. And its worth every penny.

Although trying to alter one yourself is a noble effort, just getting one is pretty inexpensive.

I just found some instructions for polishing the internals that I wrote up some time ago.
                          Polishing
There are 3 pieces to polish. Polishing these internals will not lighten the trigger pull. The easiest way to lighten a trigger is to buy an aftermarket hammer. I choose not to replace the hammer in this 10/22 because I use it to teach kids to shoot, and don't mind the 8 lb stock trigger.
On the disconnector I polished one face. The hammer rubs against the disconnector on this face.

On the hammer I polished one face and the curved end. The flat face is where the hammer makes contact with the bolt and the curved end is where the hammer makes contact with the sear.

The sear gets polished in 3 places.
This picture shows where the sear makes contact with the hammer.

This picture shows where the sear makes contact with the disconnector.
I polished the following 2 faces.

That's all for the polishing. These mods will make the trigger much more crisp and reset better as well. The difference is felt immediately.

I think this link will help you, you don't need a new one, just some adjustments.

                            That should do it.

i know i can replace it but im just wondering if for some reason i couldnt get to a new part or to some tools to fix this one would i be able to remove the bolt lock and keep shooting without having to worry about further breakages.
