    S&W M&P 15-22 malfunction

    Howdy all:

I have a relatively new (5 months) M&P 15-22. Up until recently, I thought it was the greatest thing ever made. My last two outings have given me concern, however. It started having FTF's and FTE's and got progressively worse. Today, I couldn't fire more than 2 or 3 rounds without a FTF or FTE. Sometimes the fired round would stove pipe, sometimes the bolt slammed on it and crushed it, other times it just wouldn't feed, or it tried to feed while the spent casing was still in the chamber. I have tried at least 5 different types of ammo, cleaned the hell out of it before this outing, and still no-go. Anyone else experience this? I know it's still under warranty but just wondering if any one has any advice before contacting/returning to S&W.
    Thanks.

    Edit to ad:
I'm using stock standard S&W M&P mags which came with it, by the way.

I had exactly the same problem. 700 rounds with no problems, then lots of FTE/FTF + 2 OOBs. I sent it back to S&W and everything works great now.

Just got mine back from S&W - slow shipping, but it seems like they only keep it for a day. Total time was 15 days door to door.

Just give S&W a call and they will take care of you. They will send you a call tag. So they will pay for shipping there and back.

Theres a video on Youtube that tweaks the Ejector bar just a tiny bit.
Bending the ejector bar toward the center of the rifle just a fraction of an inch does solve the FTE problems on some rifles.
As for the FTF is that FTFire or FTFeed?
The FTFeed could be due to 1 Gen Magazine or loading procedure (as was my FTF problems) theres also a good Vid on Youtube for loading.
FTFiring could be that you need S&W replace the springs with the new "Updated Blue Springs"

I had my MP 15-22 for 2 days and had FTF, FTEs and OOB discharges that caused my extractor to go missing.
After it came back from Smitty my gun has performed flawlessly

Call Smitty and tellem to email you Shipping label to save time away form you.
Mine was repaired within 3 days but Transit time from AZ to MA was a week each way

Good to hear I'm not the only one, or that I did something wrong, LOL! I'll call S&W today. By the way, what did they do to fix the problem? I'm also wondering if they'd thread my barrel while they have it, like the newer versions have(?).
The question on the FTF, it is both, failure to fire and failure to feed.
            Oh, and what's an "OOB"?
Thanks again for the quick and expert help!

The repair sheet I got just said "Updated to Lastest Specs"
They put in a new blue colored trigger hammer spring and a blue colored Bolt Spring
And I think they tweaked the Ejector Bar and I heard they also mess with the Extractor so it will not go missing like mine did due to OOB.

BTW OOB is Out Of Battery Discharge, its when the bullet is not fully inserted into the chamber (Probably due to the Bolt spring not being strong enough). The the bullet is ignited and it explodes toward the rear.
Those were very loud even tho it was a 22 shell.
My ears were ringing for 2 days.

About the threading, you can work your magic with being nice to the Cust Reps and ask if they could thread the barrel for you since you had a gun malfunction.

Thanks, and I like the idea about asking them to thread it for my troubles, LOL! I'll try it!

Ive heard guys getting free Magazines (1 to 3) from Smitty for thier troubles.
So they are bound to compensate you in some form.
I however did not get any free mags but then again I didnt mention it in my conversation with the Cust Rep nor the Letter I sent with the gun describing my problems.

Thanks, all. Just contacted S&W and they are sending me return a label to ship it back.
I mentioned threading of the barrel and he said, "add it in your letter, I'll see what we can do for you".

Wouldn't this void the warranty from S&W?
