    Anybody fired the Federal Lightning?

I can get 1,000 rounds of the Federal Lightning (40gr, 1,240 fps) for $30 at a local gun store, considerably cheaper ($10 cheaper) than the Federal Value Pack 550 rounds at Walmart.

The Lightning is also neatly packed in a "rack" too. I don't get why it's so cheap, is it an inferior round?

    Thanks

I like a bit better than regular federal bulk, seems to shoot more consistent and cleaner.

That's what I don't get, it's about $10 cheaper than the Federal 550 round value pack when I get 1000 rounds. And it comes neatly stacked in a rack. ???

Where? I've only seen that round in boxes of 500 with individual boxes of 50. I've seen that going for 25$, i've never seen a 1000rd box.

They don't come in boxes of 1000. They come in boxes of 50, at about $1.60 each box.

I'm not saying where till after I load up.

I'll disclose after I receive my next paycheck.

Don't worry, guys, I'll only take a few boxes, they have plenty there. And according to the girl who works there, they NEVER run out of that stuff, as opposed to the Federal 550 round value pack or Remington 550 bonus pack. Try to figure that out...

Doesnt walmart have some sort of wildcat round that is 1.60 a box of 50? That stuff is utter junk the round totally rotates when you twist it. This sounds like a different round though so Im interested in pics if possible.

Local walmart has this in 50 round boxes for $1.47/box. 40 grain round nose High Velocity ammo that shoots better than Fed 550/Win333 in my rifles. Similiar in performance to Fed AutoMatch. Temecula and Hemet WM has 40 or 50 boxes on the shelf most of the time, no secrets here.

Their meant to be sold as box (50) but if u buy a Brick then you get the whole "nicely stack" thing.

The fed. 550 bulk packs are copper washed 36grn. and the lightning I think is 40grn and is not copper. I guess it must cost more to copper coat the bullets, so that might be the price diff. I like the lightning better than the 550 bulk ammo for plinking.

i just went thru 550 rounds. 2 fte and 1 jam in my ruger mk3.
after about 300 my groups began to open up. maybe i was tired.
cleaned the gun, and groups tightened back up.
took a long time to clean, and i couldn't get all the deposits off. will need to try again.
not going to buy anymore fed lightning or other lead bullets.

Ya, my son uses that in his cricket. Its not jacketed, just lead, but seems to shoot fine.
