Looking for most accurate semiauto 22lr

I haven't found a more accurate out of the box with *factory ammo than most marlin 60's. I like them a lot because they're a 17+1 capacity tube fed Semi-auto with a longer barrel. They're cheap, accurate, and a lot of fun. -
Get a base 10/22 and upgrade as needed. There are aftermarket barrels that will shoot the proverbial dime-sized groups at 50 yds. If money is an issue, Green Mountain barrels offer a lot of bang for you buck. If not, your choices are many.

10/22 with a good bull barrel. This is MUCH more accurate than a mod 60.

You'll probably want to look into something from Volquartsen custom. I think all their semi-auto actions are 10/22 clones, but they are available in CNC stainless steel as opposed to aluminum used by Ruger.

And you spend a lot more on it than you will with the Model 60/795. lol this argument is almost as bad as the 1911/glock, ak/ar arguments!10/22 with a good bull barrel. This is MUCH more accurate than a mod 60.

DIY 10/22. Upgrade the trigger, good aftermarket stock and barrel and find some good ammo. I get subdime at 50 yards with bulk pack winchester dynapoint.**********************************************

I am not near the greatest shooter in the world but a couple years ago I had Ruger 10/22 that had the an expensive stock, Volquartsen trigger, nice optic, and a free floating barrel and it shot very well. A couple weeks ago I met some guys at a local shooting range who were playing with their new M&P22s and they let me shoot them. Those are great shooters, again I am not the greatest shooter in the world but I noticed my groups were about just as tight with the stock M&P22 as they were with the modified 10/22. Just my $0.02.Comment

The valquerzen are graet but out of my $ range. I am looking at the ruger 10/22 target model,The sr22 and the M&p 22. If the target model 10/22 shoots as good or better then the AR style 22,s then I would go with the cheaper ruger target model.Last edited by mattt; 05-31-2010, 4:46 PM.Comment

For roughly the same price, I think you'd be better off buying a basic 10/22 for $200, then adding a Green Mountain bull barrel ($100) and aftermarket stock ($100+, depending). I had a 10/22T (pretty barrel, to be sure), but the GM barrel is definitely more accurate. With the GM barrel and stock of your choice, you'll have a more accurate rifle w/ a stock that suits you better for not much more money.
Of course, then you have to add things like the VQ trigger kit, extractor, etc.

How much more accurate is SO MUCH more?? Seriously with factory ammo head to head I haven't seen a better rifle than just about any model 60. Plus you get 14+ rounds to boot which you can't say about any other. I put my 20 year old model 60 up to a 10/22 with over 3k invested into volquartsen everything and it held its own. I had a $10 tasco 4x15 scope and shot at 25 yards and both were inside of an inch. The 10/22 would consistently put it through the same hole where the marlin would tear a hole with a flier here and there. People get stuck on the 10/22 because it is very versatile and you can do MUCH more with a 10/22 with the right budget. For an out of the box that you don't want to spend more on aftermarket parts than you did the rifle, I can't say any ruger will beat the marlin and this is coming from a big ruger fan.10/22 with a good bull barrel. WHAT???? First off, I honestly don't know how you can get a $3K 10/22 without haveing $2k of optics on it. You are correct. at 25 yards the mod 60 looks to do ALMOST as well. Now take that same gun and move out to 50 and 100+ yards. You WILL see the difference. I have a model 60 and I love it but it won't even come close to my 10/22 in accuracy. How much more accurate is SO MUCH more?? The OP didn't give a price range nor ammo specs so I threw out what would be an accurate factory rifle with SK SP ammo (didn't think about the TC they look nice though) . I agree with the others that say buy a cheap $200 10/22 and replace the stock (I have a B&C), trigger (I have a power custom kit) and barrel (I'm running a Kid 20"). My 10/22 and others that have simular builds will agree it is rediculously accurate.
You are right people do get hung up on the 10/22 and for good reason. You can make them SO SO SO MUCH more accurate than a model 60. I stand behind it that the Ruger 10/22 Target IS more accurate than the model 60. You could argue that the model 60 is more accurate than the standard 10/22 and I would probably say you are right.Last edited by surfNshoot; 05-31-2010, 6:58 PM.Comment

Fair enough, I can just agree to disagree on it. Probably personal experience from both accounts and it comes down to what you're going to do with the gun. If you want a gun with limitless mods, go with a 10/22. If you want a shooter out of the box, PERSONALLY I'd go with a 60 but to each his own. And for the 3k 10/22 thing, it was a 1 off Volquartsen snake fluted barrel with the round comp and a weird 19.?? inch barrel custom made for him, a custom made stock that was all hand crafted, a KIDD trigger group, and I can't even remember what the internals were but the barrel was like eight hundred some odd dollars by itself. He had a Nikko-Stirling nighteater target scope, nice sling, yada yada yada on there and it totalled about 3k all said and done. Anyway, cheers to memorial day

check the CZ website, I think they are coming out with a semi-auto sometime in midyear (a 455 IIRC). Might be worth the wait if it is as good as their bolt guns.Comment
