    Beretta 21a and Ammo Choices

I understand the 21a is very picky when it comes to .22lr ammo, I've been shooting my 21a with only CCI Mini-mags and so far no problems. So I'm curious, what other ammunition would this run flawlessly on?

I am always looking for Beretta D models in 9mm or a Compact Type M.

Anything works with Minimags. I used Federal bulk pack and Remington Golden Bullets in my 21a. Both had issues after 3 mags or so, they're both quite dirty. I had no problems with Minimags, same as you.

This is from a Beretta Forum, but addresses your questions quite nicely. Thread is about safety if dropping it but moves into ammo also..

I have an older 950BS and it's just not the same as a 21A. Not better, not worse. Different beasts, different issues. I do know that every 22LR semi-auto I know of is finicky about ammo and that CCI Stingers almost always resolves most folks issues. But they are not cheap...

Hope others can help you also..

To reiterate - everything works with Minimags

Walmart often has them. Then there's always the Internet.

Where you live, LAX Range sells them.

Mine eats anything that isn't just lead tipped. The lead seems to drag and jam the slide.

And on the other extreme, NO SEMI-AUTO pistol that I've used works well w/ Remington or the other lead (non-plated) ammo. This has been my experience and everyone I've talked to about 22LR.. I'm sure some of you love Remington, and have had great luck w/ it, but not my experience.

BTW - I had a 22LR revolver (Single Six) which will shoot ANYTHING and found that no matter what brand you use, there is a 1-2% non-fire rate. I.e. primer does not ignite. Try re-shooting dud - did not fire. And it really makes a MARK on the ammo - so not like it's a light strike or anything like that. Same numbers w/ my Marlin 60 22LR rifle. CCI, Federal, Remington all about the same rate. Granted I shot a lot more Federal than anything else...

I'm relatively new to rimfire, but was surprised by this rather high rate of failure.
