most versatile and customizable bolt action 22?

hey guys I'm lookin to pick up another 22 and as much as I love the 10/22 I am really considering a bolt action so I can avoid some of the pickiness that the 10/22 has with ammo. My big question and thing I am looking at for is a bolt action 22 that somewhat compares to the 10/22 is versatility and customizability... easy barrel changeout, upgradable triggers, stocks... I really like the Savage MKII but I don't like the challenges presented with changing out the barrel.... any suggestions? my upfront budget is going to be $275 to $400... with any luck I'll not change my mind and go after a 308 build! Thanks guys!

Instead of buying a rifle that needs a ton of upgrades why not buy a good 22 to begin with , A top of the line CZ will have nice wood ,the 453 has a set trigger that can be set very light and the quality of the barrel is good . The cz will outshoot most of the custom 10/22s i have seen . Custom rifles seldom return even close to the cost if you ever go to sell them .
I cant think of a bolt 22 in your budget that the barrel will come off of easily .

Get CZ and customize a 10-22 later
Barrel, action, trigger all top notch. I wish I hadn't sold mine.
But I'm selling ALL my guns.

The Savage MK ll series has decent aftermarket support.
CZ has had some aftermarket support, triggers by Timney and action screws by some small companies. Aftermarket stocks are the area that CZ have been lacking in. That is about to change. CZ is introducing a new model 455, it has replaceable barrels, improved trigger and stock options will be more varied. Currently you can find it in the American model. There is a new model 452 the Thumbhole Varmint that is the first CZ rimfire thumbhole stock I have seen.
Not many affordable rimfire bolt rifles have a easy to replace barrel nor do they need it replaced. Its not that hard to change barrels but the head space is done on the bolt and once matched with a barrel at the factory it may not work well with a replacement barrel and some lathe work maybe called for limiting what the home builder can do.

I'll have to check out the CZ 455. I really like the savage MKII-BTVS.. got a good look to it ... plus I've read some nice reports about it as far as performance.

I don't think I see your logic here, because generally with the exception of ARs or something the more expensive (and hence the better) a rifle is the less you want to customize it. You customize a 10/22 because it's kind of crappy in its original configuration, and you want to make it mo'betta. That's kind of the only reason to customize in my opinion.

You'll be supremely happy with a CZ 452 in stock configuration. I especially recommend the Lux. You can change out the barrel in the newer 455 for... another 455 barrel, so what's the point? A Savage MkII is great as well, but a CZ just has a little more polish to it.

On the other hand, a 10/22 should eat all ammo you throw at it. This includes Remington Golden Bullet (oh the humanity!). Try calling Ruger so they can take a look at it and fix it.

Sorry, double post, but if you're in the area Bay Area Gun Vault has the Red-White-Blue stainless steel bull barrel laminate version of that Savage on clearance for $329 while they still have some. For that price, you can't beat it.

CZ had two fantastic semiauto models on IWA show this year in Nuremberg. I fall in love.
