ruger 10/22

I just bought my first rifle yesterday...started small to get used to maintenace and all on a gun and looking into a remington 770 later this year. Any comments on what I shud do before I take the ruger out for the first time when I pick it up and possible upgrades..

get a cleaning kit and a rod that fits and clean the bore of oil before shooting. Be very careful not to ding the muzzle with the rod. 10/22's are almost zero maintenance. As for upgrades, there are many, but I would save up for another gun instead.
