Big 5 AR 22's

Was in big 5 getting pellets and I noticed they were selling AR looking 22's.

Anybody have any experience or knowledge about these? They look like fun.

AFAIK Big 5 has been selling the M&P 22's and Colt M4 22's.

Neither use mil-spec AR receivers, but are fun plinkers. I sill prefer the Sig 522.

I picked up my S&W M&P 15-22 at Big 5 some 3 weeks ago . It's truly a sweet shooter. The 22lr is much cheaper to shoot that its counterparts. It has shot flawlessly for 1250 rounds.

...and for those who do (or aspire to) shoot the AR the S&W M&P15-22 has controls that work and are in same location as on the AR.

Since I recently bought a Marlin 795, I'm debating whether to spend more money on a tactical cool .22, but if I do, I believe it will be the S&W. I've handled both it and the Sig at Turners and the S&W is lighter and looks like an AR. The Sig is heavier, IMO ugly and the lack of sights for the price, bothers me. Each to his own tho.

Big 5 stocks the new colt 22 (not even made by colt, just uses the name)...Ive read lots of reviews and pretty much the gun isnt all that great.

I dont know the specifics since I only read some reviews when I was interested in getting 1..But Just everytime i read a review the person sais a dedicated upper is the way to go and so much better to work on. Everyone complains that its slightly cheaply made. Doesnt accept normal AR 22lr mags. Ive read a few times from more multiple owners about parts breaking..Im sure its a good gun for a weekend plinker.

I love my dedicated AR22, best thing about spending a little extra is that i can later convert to a 223 since it uses the standard ar15 body. Only difference is that the bolt stop and forward assist dont work vs. a 223 ar15, but im waiting for the new upgrades to make everything fully functional. Itll be fun to be able to speed load even if its a 22

I have a Stag AR-15. I also bought a .22 upper for it. All I have to do is swap the uppers to go from .223 to .22. I was at the range with my son, shooting the "Stag AR-22" and next to me was a father & son, shooting a Colt AR-22. He wished he had what I had.
