RANGE REPORT: MKIII 6 7/8" Slab side competition

Well, first day out with my new Ruger MKIII Slab side and it shot flawless. I went through a box of CCI mini-mags and it performed as it should. I replaced the factory grips with Volquartsen volthane target grips. It shoots where you point it with the exception that the sights were off a little bit at 45'. I shot it indoors only so wind is no factor and at 15', its a one hole gun. at 25' the gun starts to shoot about an inch low and an inch to the left consistently. At 45', it shoots about an inch and a half low and left. A screwdriver would have been good but I was in a hurry and didn't get to take my tools with me. I went through 100 rounds of the mini-mags, 50 rounds of Aguila 40gr standard velocity, 50 rounds of american eagle copper HP, and 50 rounds of Remington Subsonic lead round nose. So 250 rounds later the things I discovered other than the sights being slightly off was that when it locked back at last round, the magazine wouldn't drop freely. I am not sure what its catching on but its definitely not the grips because I checked those thoroughly. It may just need to be used a bit because I could drop the bolt, and let it go into battery and the mag would drop free without problems. The other thing was the ammo. It really liked the slower ammo for accuracy. The mini-mags didn't shoot well for some reason through it and when I went to the Aguila, and Remington subsonics, they shot much better. I'll get pics up ASAP.

I found that a little dremel action was required on both of my Volquartsen grips and/or screws.

Now put a comp on it.
    It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Don't know if I want to drop a bill on the front end for a comp that I don't necessarily NEED. It doesn't really have any recoil to begin with, but a better trigger is due for sure. I'm going to knock out a few thousand rounds through it first and see how the trigger is later on. Its looking like a VQ sear, hammer, and Clark bushing is the money ticket though.

Allyou need is the VQ sear. It'll clean it right up. I didnt know that, so I bought the entire VQ trigger kit- which is nice, but not necessary. Just the sear will do it- trigger is sweet with that little mod.

I have a stainless VQ slabside comp I'm willing to sell cheap.

I find it adds too much weight on an already muzzle heavy gun.
