    new member - new mp15-22

    hey guys!

recently signed up for this site and became yet another proud owner of a mp15-22. i picked up mine from oak tree gun club here in newhall about a couple weeks ago and have been gone shooting with it every weekend since. i primarily shoot up at oak tree because it very close and i enjoy the friendly atmosphere. also since i bought my gun from a range they let me take it out whenever i wanted during the 10 day wait period - awesome!!

below are a few pictures of the new gun and what i have added so far.

brand new out of the box!

    xtm panels and barrel shroud

primary arms red dot with cantilever mount

primary arms 3x mag - with red dot, magpul AFG

oak tree rimfire range with my buddy who also has his own mp15-22

old target - iron sights at around 30 yards

currently waiting for some more goodies from larue to ship and i will be done for now. i really love shooting this gun!

anyways just wanted to say hi and show my current setup on my mp5-22.
    take it easy guys

Welcome and congrats on a fine rifle? Any jams or FTFs or FTE's? What is the serial number prefix of your 15-22 and are the springs blue? I'm asking already because everyone else will ask, lol.

        Congrats and enjoy.

With regard to cleaning, if nothing else, be sure to thoroughly clean the bolt/rail assembly after each session . . . And run the bolt/rail assembly wet with a good lubricant/oil.

I'm in the same boat as you Rick but have yet to get mine. Been checking out many of the threads on Calguns in regard to some of the issues I seen with the 15/22 as well as finding the best place to get one. Looks like the Big 5 down the road is mine best option right now.

The other thing is important info like erratikmind's post, common sense really, but I'm an impatient guy at times and just can't wait to get mine out the box and go to the range. Will have to post about it when I do.

Rick, nice photos and the more you shoot your M&P the more you're going to like it. I have a Colt/Umarex M4, a GSG5, a Sig 522, and 2 M&P15-22s. Of all these the M&P is my favorite rifle. Both of mine have been trouble free thru several thousand rounds. You bought the best one of the bunch IMO, enjoy it.

              thanks everyone

@RT13 - DTX with blue followers. only had a couple FTF with remi hyper velocity but that was all i could get that day. been running cci blazer ever since with zero problems in 2500 rounds.

@erratikmind - i clean it after every time i go shooting, which is usually once a week. i have been using this 'remi oil' that came with my gun cleaning kit - that decent enough?

@mag318 - thanks man, i have only shot the mp and the sig. i liked the weight of the sig except it felt a little bulky to me. the weight of my mp is feeling better with the additional attachments.

i spent most of the day saturday trying my optics sighted in. the gun is more accurate then i am. i need to work on breathing and trigger pull more closely - but as of now the sights are pretty close. i plan on printing out those targets for the may rimfire match...if i can only find a printer!!

              easy guys

I picked up a 15-22 several weeks ago and fired 525 rounds of Federal Value Pack. I had quite a few stovepipes, approx 25, other than that it ran good.

My ser# is DUA****, has a blue spring and I clean it after each range session.

Yes, the Rem Oil should be fine. When cleaning the bolt assembly, I always detail strip it down to its 4 basic pieces . . . 1) bolt 2) rail 3) recoil rod 4) recoil spring.

This allows me to get into the 2 bolt channels, which the rails slide in.

You may be experiencing a failure to eject issue. Aside from the ejector being properly aligned within the bolt . . . You might try stripping down the bolt assembly and give the rails and the 2 bolt channels a good cleaning. I run the bolt very wet. Personally, I prefer M-Pro 7 gun oil LPX. This helps eliminate some of the friction and allows the bolt to cycle more quickly and freely.

Regardless of which lubricant/oil you may use, I suggest applying plenty of oil to the recoil rod guide and the bolt channels and rails.

                    Good luck and enjoy!

fwiw, we shopped around a week or two ago (San Diego area) and Big 5 had highest price, then Turners was $20 less, as was Discount Gun Mart (two San Diego locations). DGM also currently has mags in stock for it (but they apparantly go fast).

2nd fwiw, we only have 150 rounds thru our 15-22 (it just got out of jail yesterday) but have had no probs at all. Really fun little rifle. Very happy with it. I really like that the "controls" are in same location (and operate!) like on the AR.

To OP (Rick?), how do you like shooting it with the red dot versus stock sights?

                      CONGRATS...fine little S&W there!!

@erratikmind - thanks for the tip, will do the detail strip of the bolt when cleaning.

@wsmc27 - i could have saved a bunch of money if i had shopped around but i liked being able to go shoot my gun whenever i wanted until i took delivery. i like shooting with the red dot but i am finding it more difficult getting used to using the red dot with the magnifier. i might end up taking off the mag and getting the magpul mbus so i can co-witness. the gun is a blast to shoot either way - i just need some more practice to see what sort of optic configuration i prefer the most.

                        thanks guys

                          Wow Nice setup
Looks just like mine, minus a houge grip that I highly recommend
                          It makes quite a difference.

I had numerous FTEs and FTFs also a couple of OOB Discharges that made my Extractor to go missing
The Mothership made it right as rain for me and love the gun now

I'm going to the one at Del Mar the following weekend.

Just got back from local indoor range - another 50 rounds thru our lil' M&P standing off-hand. Man that thing is awesome!

                              No probs. Yay.

Rick thanks for the feedback. We'll prolly get a low end red dot to play with, but shooting stock sights so far it's been great.

Really a neat little rifle. Very pleased.
