wolf match target or eley sport?

hey guys, i'm trying to buy some bulk ammo for practicing silhouette shooting at my local club. i've pretty much come down to selecting between the wolf match target and Eley sport (the purple box which says made in mexico). both are subsonic ammo, so that's great, and price is relatively the same i think.

but between the two brands, which have given you guys the best results?

*my primary use for this ammo is for plinking and silhouette shooting. i'll be using this on my bolt action .22 rifle with a 22 inch barrel.

Wolf match gives better results but is a pain in the *** to load in a single-shot Anschutz because it has a slippery lubricated case. It causes many frustrations. Heck, even in my 10/22 loading a magazine is a voyage in patience.

Eley Sport in my opinion does not perform as well as Wolf Match Target, but you can load them with your fingers without frustration. Time is money, so go for the Eley.

+1 for the Wolf MT, though yes, those cases are slippery!

Order a brick of each and test for yourself.

That's the only way to find out. Unless you send me your rifle and a brick of each and I'll have an answer by the end of the week.

I don't believe those two ammos are in the same league. Wolf Match Target is better (Germany), Eley Sport is OK (Mexico, same as some Aguila). I doubt you will see anyone shooting Eley Sport in match competition, at least not anyone with the intention of winning. Just saying Eley Sport is not target ammo.

The Wolf is around $1+ more per box of 50 than the Eley. That said who knows your gun may shot the Eley better than the Wolf. I get better performance with Win 333 bulk from WM that I do with Aguila Match Rifle. 22s can be fussy about ammo. Federal Lightning ($1.47/50 @ WM) shoots the best of any ammo in my Savage MKII BTVS. Cheap shooting for me.

Overall Wolf MT seems more consistent. But each 22lr rifle is an enigma, so you need to try both and find out which one shoots better.

My Model 41 prefers Wolf Match. The brick of Eley Sport I bought is very inconsistent. Some rounds don't have enough power to cycle the action and stovepipes occur as a result. If your gun likes it then it's a good choice because it's very inexpensive and pretty accurate. I haven't had any misfires from either Wolf Match or Eley Sport.

hey guys, thanks for the advice.

i have actually shot Eley Sport (made in Mexico) and Wolf Match Target and also SK Standard Plus. All were pretty decent, but i guess Wolf Match Target is probably the biggest bang for the buck. i will place in order later on in the week.

                    thanks for all the viewpoints.

For the money Wolf cant be beat. I have not found any .22lr ammo that provides similar performance for the cost. It sucks to load into mags since its so slippery but its worth the effort. Plus, like trob said, it smells nice ;-)

Go wolf. I bought the 4 cases (20K) eley sport a few years back (for $414) but I would not buy it at the current price against the wolf (or at all). Mainly I purchase since I was shooting the Silhouex for matches and the Sport was same speed and weight. So good for practice for me.
