10/22 loose pins in trigger group

I disassembled my new 10/22's trigger group and I noticed the pins that hold in the bolt release/safety and the ejector are quite loose. If you turn the trigger assembly sideways and shake it up and down or tap it a few times, there's a good chance one or both of them will start coming out. During the time I was messing with the trigger group, both of them came out inadvertently. Is that normal?

I understand that when the gun is fully assembled, the stock holds the pins in, but it makes me need to be really careful when handling the trigger group when it's not in the stock. Are there any favored methods for making the pins a little tighter?

Mine is like that too...didn't do anything to try to fix it. Everything still works fine.
    Insert something clever here.

      Stake the pins lightly.
This is an old 10/22 trick, everyone hates the parts falling out when the stock is removed.
To stake, support the trigger group firmly on its side with pins in place.
Take a small center punch and hammer, make a small dent in the trigger body right next to the pin, pushing some of the body material towards the pin...the edge of the dent should slightly overhang the pin.
It doesn't need much, so make a little dent and then check the pins to see if they are tight, make a bigger dent if needed.
Yes, you can still take out the pins for cleaning if you don't go overboard on the staking.

Oversize pins are sold to tighten up the trigger group slop.
They help the pin housing fit as well.

Tony Kidd has a fix for this problem as well:

I have one of these sets on one of my 10/22's. It's pretty nice.

I left my other 10/22's stock. The loose pins really don't bother me. With the one, I was just trying to get maximum accuracy out of it, so I tries these pins. One of my other 10/22's will still out shoot it.

Blue painters tape when it comes out of the stock.

I read on another forum a suggestion to just dab a little clear nail polish on the pins, which makes them every so slightly thicker and a little bit sticky. Seems to work pretty well and it didn't cost anything.

So you already had clear nail polish sitting around?
