Looks sweet. The Sig 522 will stay mostly stock. I am torn between an OLL and a .22 LR upper or a 10/22 with lots of mods. Probably get one of each--one can never have too many 22s...or 223s...or pistols...or...well you get the idea. Damn I'm going to need a bigger safe.

If you like tuning and souping up things, get the Ruger 10/22. It is a fun gun not only to shoot but work on. Tons of parts and availability. If I can only own one .22 rifle, I would still choose a 10/22. The Sig 522 is a great shooting reliable rifle but it's also heavy like a 10/22 and less things you can do with it. It's front heavy and I just don't like the looks and design of it. I personally prefer the 15-22 over both. So much so that I own two. I love my other .22 rifles but for an AR15 platform you can't beat it. And why do some still talk about polymers as a negative like the 15-22 being plastic? It's one of the good reasons why many like myself chose it. It's not top or front heavy. Very light and easy for run and gun and stand up shooting not just bench shooting. Why does it need to have a tin can receiver over the polymer one when it works and is stronger than the tin can ones like on the Colt M4 and Sig 522? Polymer seems to work well on firearms, just ask Glock, Sig, Hk, S&W, Springfield, etc.

The Ruger 10-22 is one rifle everyone should own and is Rugers most succesful product. That said the rimfire black rifles are a whole new category. And even though I own 10-22s you can't beat the black rifles for fun guns and training aids. I have bought a Colt/Umarex M4 which I soon discovered was the worst rifle of the bunch, poorly designed and tends to fall apart. Followed by a GSG5 which while better then the Colt clone is still an overly complex design. The Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 is in a class by itself. The design and execution is the best of the bunch, takes down and functions just like a centerfire AR and is my favorite. The Sig 522 is also a much better rifle then either the Colt or GSG5 and mimics a Sig 556. It is a quality rifle you won't go wrong with. If though you want a rimfire AR then the M&P15-22 is the way to go. Of all four that I bought I can only recommend the S&W and the Sig.

I don't discount polymer's efficacy for weapons at all and don't understand why some do--I like my Sigs for alloy frames only in the large calibers (40 and 357) because it helps with inertial control on recoil. But I owned an H&K USP .40 in poly and it was fine. I bought a Sig 522 to start and I'll get a 10/22 I am certain and mod it.

Of all four that I bought I can only recommend the S&W and the Sig.

I went Sig 522 but then I have Sig pistols and I like Sig quality and engineering. It's a personal bias I admit. As far as I am concerned, little issues aside, we need to stick together.

Yes. I'll get there. So many firearms, so little money and time. I have AR-15 OLLs, pistols, hunting rifles, O&U shotguns (my big passion), HD , and now .22LR builds. Sheesh, Gotta pace my budget the CFO (Chief Family Officer) is watching my budget.
