Ruger SR-22 plastic parts

Can somebody who has one tell me what parts are plastic.

Mainly is the front stock metal or plastic?

Is the tube that the buttstock attaches to metal or plastic?

What parts around the "10/22" reciever are metal and what's plastic?

I imagine the "pic" rail part is metal? Trying to figure out if it's basically a 10/22 with different barrel/tip and a plastic dress up kit you could get for $100 bucks and they just charge 3 times more or if there is more metal to it as well.

It is the nordic components kit. I believe it is all metal.

AR parts fit on the kit, so plastic or metal is your choice when choosing those.


Check out rimfirecentral.com for more info on it, if I were to get a tacticool .22, it would be the sr-22, or a dedicated .22 upper.

Thanks I'll check it out. Reason I'm interested in it, is it's basically a 10/22 and I can shoot a black gun with 25 round pre ban mags legally.

Yep! It is a pretty awesome design. I didn't like it at first, but when I actually saw more examples (again, rimfirecentral.com) it started appealing to me. It would also be best to grab the SR-22 over building one, because I think you actually come out ahead that way, it is a bit cheaper considering the heavy barrel, fore end, buttstock, NCK, and the receiver itself.

I found one today at a Big 5. The only plasic I noticed was of course the buttstock. I forget to see if the trigger guard was metal or plastic. I heard the new carbine 10/22's and maybe all new 10/22 carbine type models use a plastic trigger guard.

They had it on special marked down from (I forgot) to $550. couldn't have been marked down too much, since I think that's about normal since MSRP is about $625 and guns usually sell below MSRP.

I asked if they sell the version with the bull barrel and I was told no.

Gonna do a little searching on prices and see if there are any current big5 coupons for 20-25% off. Probably won't work though since it's already marked down? probably be cheaper to wait till they take it off special, then use a 20% coupon, since I doubt they would sell it for MSRP.

Only thing I didn't care for was the flash hider. I like flash hiders, just not that style. 18" bull barrel would fix that.

The forestock covers are plastic as well. I seriously considered one before I chose a Sig 522. The tried-and-tru 10/22 action cannot be beat--it's legendary for reliability in my mind. The Sig 522 Tactical just provided features I wanted more--but I am a Sig fan and I expect this Sig to live up to it. No way you went wrong with the Ruger. When I held it it felt solid because it's metal--not like a 15-22 plastic fantastic.

You sure the round forestock is plastic? It was cold to the touch like the other metal parts and sounded/felt like metal. Also those forestocks are drilled and threaded for accessory pic. rails and I can't imagine that such a thin tubing would/could be plastic while having threads..

Now I need to go look at it again lol.

THe perorated forestock cover is plastic--for perspective the forestock on the M-16 is plastic/whatever--I carried one in the 18th Airborne Corps for 3 years so I am pretty sure having slept with it more than I would have preferred compared to other company..

I don't know about any of the SR-22 stock parts being metal or plastic but the trigger housing and trigger are plastic as well as the mag release.

That's what it looked like to me too.

Wonder if I upgraded my bench 10/22 to a VQ or Kidd complete drop in trigger, if I could use the old leftover metal trigger housing from from my bench 10/22, since it was made in the mid 90's.

I kind of wish I knew about this SR-22 before I got my sig. I may have to end up reorganizing my safe again if I can get one for around $550 with tax and DROS fees. If Big5 still had the 20% off coupon, I'd probably do it now, since it wasn't actually a 'sale' price. Would have only been about $450 plus tax and fees

Guy next to me at the range was pretty proud of his SR-22 and gave me a look. Sure didn't feel like a plastic POS, I was impressed.

Not sure I would buy a 10/22 to modify now...not when you could just buy that puppy. Oh yea, this should help. (10% off sale item, 20% off regular price item) Shazamn!

Well I tried to talk myself out of it but every time I looked at my old 25 round mags, I couldn't resist the chance to have a 'black gun' I can legally shoot 25 rounders through.
