    10/22 ruger question?

Is there anything I need to do to break in the barrel? Do I need to clean it before first firing it? How often do I need to clean it, every time I go shooting with it or after a certain number of bullets? Just asking as tomorrow I get to go to pick up my 10/22, I had to wait 11 days as the shop is closed today.

    Thanks

You should ALWAYS clean any firearm before shooting for the 1st time. As for cleaning it after that, you will rarely get the same answer twice. Some people rarely clean their .22s and believe they shoot better "dirty", while others are fanatical about cleaning. I personally believe in cleaning about every 1,000 rounds or so, which would be about 3-4 trips to the range for me.

Also, .22s don't need to be "broken in".

No. Make sure the barrel is clear. Shoot the gun.

When it gets dirty or malfunctions.

When I put a new Green Mountain bull barrel on my 10/22 I just installed it without even thinking twice (I guess I was just so excited to get it).
I've only shot about 1,500 rounds (federal bulk pack) through it with the new barrel but it has shot at least 1 MOA the whole time.
