    mp15-22 big disappointment. -pics added-

this problem with the fail to eject is just crazy. if they know
there is a problem they should correct it long before they ship
them. also this claim that it has a match grade barrel is nonsense.
i know i can send it in and have the FTE corrected but in my opinion
it should have been taken care of already. i also read that they
have some accuracy problems due to the barrel being too loose.
    what gives.

UPDATE: This is the aftermath of a FTE followed by
an ignition from a round that wasn't fully seated due to
the brass being crimped in between the bolt and the
chamber. (keep in mind these pics were taken right after
coming home from the range.) i looked for the extractor
a good 15min but couldnt find it. the other parts were
    released as i cleared it.

You need to go to the S&W forum, they have a whole section devoted
to the MP-22. There have been MANY problems with the blown ejectors
and they have gone on for some time. I have owned and shot S&W for
over 40 years and I don't understand how they let this 22 get away from
them. They have great customer service for fixing your rifle but this rifle
has been out for quite awhile now and you would think they would get it
    right. Pete

So, what kind of ammo where you using? Remington perhaps? Did you try any others?

for every one that malfunctions there are thousands that have not had a hiccup. I have over 1000 rounds of 7 different ammos without one failure and at 25 yds indoors with the oem sights I shot the 10x ring out with all 7 ammos. Pretty damn accurate for me, especially with the oem iron sights. Its always to bad when one gets something that doesn't function properly but you are the exception not the norm. And the ejector adjustment fixes it in less than 5 minutes.

Thats too bad, mine has over 1000 + rounds and nothing ever went wrong. At least SW has good customer service. Im sure they will be more then happy to fix it for you.

Try some different ammo and lube it up before you get in a tizzy. Some rimfires need a lot of lube an are real finniky.

I could have done it for about $100 less but I wanted the Magpul forearm and stock. So for about $665 I could have built a REAL AR-15 in dedicated .22 that with the simple purchase of a .223 upper can be the "real thing".

I have already put several thousand trouble free rounds of bulk pack .22 through it...

This is my opinion, I made it myself!
Using C Products 10 round magazines in my AR-15...just to be "safe"...

i was a little agitated yesterday because of one of the FTE
i had. the bolt closed enough to allow the firing pin to release.
my son was to my right and the case ruptured. it wasnt fully
seated. he was spotting for me so i could make my scope ad-
justments. he got tagged by some brass fragments. ive been
using federal and winchester ammo. this problem of FTE is quite
                    common from what ive read.

Here's a little list of ammo S&W suggests. I've got 4 more days til I can pick up my 15-22, but from what I've read the 15-22 doesn't care much for subsonic ammo, or cheap bulk ammo. It seems to do best with high velocity ammo.

From the 15-22 manual pdf I downloaded:

Based on the design and action of the M&P15-22, Smith &
Wesson recommends that you use the following brands and
types of .22LR ammunition for optimal performance in your
                      M&P15-22 rifle:

                      • CCI Standard Velocity • Federal American Eagle
                      • CCI Mini-Mag • Federal GameShock
                      • CCI Stinger • Winchester Super-X High Velocity
                      • Aguila Super Extra High Velocity • Aguila Super Extra Std. Velocity

Smith & Wesson suggests that you fire several boxes of a recommended
brand of ammunition through your M&P15-22 before you
put it into regular use to determine reliability of ignition and performance
of your ammunition. If “failure to fire” or other issues
should occur, try different recommended brands and types until a
                      reliable load is found.

Through our testing, Smith & Wesson has also found that there
are several brands and types of .22LR ammunition that do not
perform consistently or reliably. Consequently, Smith & Wesson
DOES NOT RECOMMEND that the following brands or types of
.22LR ammunition be used in your M&P15-22 rifle:

                      • Remington Golden Bullet • Remington Thunderbolt
                      • Remington Target 22 • Winchester Wildcat
                      • Any and all sub-sonic brands and types

Please call Smith & Wesson Customer Service at 1-800-331-
0852 ext. 2905 if you have any questions regarding the recommended
ammunition and maintenance of your M&P15-22 rifle.

a 10/22 will fire consistently no matter what
you feed it. okay so this isnt a 10/22 so for
the sake of argument i will try the higher
                        velocity brands they recommend.

                          I built this:

                          For this:
                          Spikes Lower–$112
Magpul stock, grip, hand-guard, buffer tube assembly–$99.95
                          Daniel Defense lower parts kit–$75.50
                          UTG rear site–$24.95
                          Mapgpul Polymer trigger guard–$11.75
                          Velocity Firearms .22 upper–$365
                          DROS and Handling fee–$75
                          TOTAL–$764.15

Wow, that is really nice. Tell me, do you use an AR15 lower parts kit or is there a special .22 lower kit?

Also, are all .22 mags the same? Or do you need to pick a system, like with 9mm ARs?

I used the lower parts kit just as it came which included the standard notched hammer. This is part of the reason I chose the Velocity upper because it works with the standard hammer.

The Velocity kit uses the Black Dog mags which are the same ones as the Ciener conversion uses so they are as close to a "widely accepted standard" as you can get in the .22 conversion market-space for the AR-15 platform.

I researched all of this very carefully so that I would not have to change anything (other than the mag release for a bullet button) later on if I get a .223 upper and California still has the stupid laws on the books.
