    Walter P22 vs. Sig Mosquito

Looking for a starter gun for the wife, she has very little gun experience period, which is a better gun for the money. We have seen both, they fit her hand well, and prices at our gun shop are very similar on both so need some help,

    Walther P22 or Sig Mosquito???

    Thanks

If you can rent both and shoot them, then buy a mkiii or a buckmark. That way you save the frustration of fte ftf etc with the two you metion.

But if you must get either, do not buy the sig!!! mines failed every other shot with all brands I had on hand (rem gold, fed 550, win 333, cci minimags cci hyper velocities.) so after that tradedit with a mk and I'm totally happy!

Most new P22's are great. They got their bad rep years ago. Most of the problems have been fixed. After 700 rounds mine will eat anything and shoots great. It's one of my favorite guns. Shoots great, feels great, and makes me feel like a secret agent.
I highly recommend the P22 to everyone. I know I'm in the minority here, but I'll keep defending it by myself if I have to.
I think it's a super fun gun and is awesome.

the p22 was my first gun and I still like it very much. Just remember, the barrel interchangeability is a no-go for California so don't expect to be able to switch between the short and long one. I read that it was picky about ammo, but so far it's gobbled up everything.

I ended up with a Sig Mosquito and have been very happy with it.

The P22 is designed for a childs hands, and is WAY too small for me.

The Mosquito has been a fantastic shooter with Federal 550 Bulk.

But, I've also had a Mark II for years, and wouldn't get a Mosquito (or P22) as a first pistol. If you want a first .22 pistol, get a Mark III or Buckmark. THEN get one of the "toy" plinker .22 pistols like the P22 or Mosquito.

I own a P22 and enjoy it very much. I'd have to check logs or posts to figure out how many rounds I have through it now (multiple thousands for sure).

I have never shot a Sig.

The P22 is a plinker, just about any issue has been covered over at rimfirecentral.com - there is no need to be gung ho with the mods, other than proper lubrication and considering polishing the trigger bar ears.

My friends all told me it was a POS, until they went shooting w/ me.
It's a great entry into shooting. For me, it fit my hand well, which is why I bought it.

The Ruger or Buckmark (I would choose Buckmark) are probably a better long term choice, but as an introduction to shooting, and solid support, I have no hesitation stating the P22 is a fun pistol to own and shoot.

Im pretty lucky, I have access to a few 22s and a most of them are setup for suppressed firing.

The AWC amphibian at $3k+ has had just as many issues as the Buckmark and the Rugers. The buckmark is setup with a Tac65 can and seems to more reliable than the AWC ruger but keyholes alot of the times.

The P22 with the Tac65 works like a champ. Its one of the newer ones ones and seems to work great although I will use the P22 bible to fix a few things when I get a chance.

I like the way the Sig feels and might buy one soon. Dont be put off with the old Sigs or P22s, they had some issues that have been worked out for the most part.

                  .22 pistol

I tried and held both and opted for the Walther.

Mine shoots extremely well and had a few FTE's at first with cheap Federal ammo, but now, it will go through hundreds of rounds at the range with no problems whatsoever. That could be because I read that it prefers high velocity CCI's, so I bought a couple thousand rounds at a gun show.

It is a small framed gun, but it's definitely not "designed for a child".

                  Regards,

                  John

Ive got a P22, and its a very fun little gun to shoot. If you have some big hands (like i do) it can be a lil wierd to shoot, but still fun. Looked at the Mosquito but never shot one. It felt better for more fuller hands. Either way you go, im sure you'll be fine.

                      .
I'm sure Walther designed a gun with small child-like hands in mind.

Mine is really reliable but I've pulled the front sight out and lost it by stuffing it in my back pocket. I don't know if there are other good pocket 22s.
Maybe I'll get a Buckmark but it's not a back pocket gun.

                          FROM FUSS...

You already know my vote.... Either one will be a good starter and be fun..
With the SIG you need to do a little work to get it to run.

I vote the WALTHER 22... My dad had one and now my Niece they both have had no issues and love the little Walther 22...

Ok that is 12 votes total so far..

                          Walther 10
                          SIG 2....

Seems pretty clear cut to me so far.

                          Best in your quest!

If you enjoy working out while you're shooting try the S&W 617. Kinda heavy but it is a lot of fun.
