    Range Report Sig 522 & S&W M&P15-22

This afternoon I took both my Sig 522 and S&W M&P15-22 to the range. I wanted to range test today at 100 yards. The Sig since it came without sights I decided to mount a scope on it, the S&W has iron sights. Both rifles functioned flawlessly thru a total of 650 rounds of Federal 550 bulk ammunition. The trigger on the Sig was great out of the box. On the M&P initially it was a little heavier but with no creep. Over a few range sessions the M&P trigger smoothed out considerably and is now just as nice as the Sigs. As you can see both rifles did quite well at 100 yards. If I had to choose between the two it would be a tough choice, but I'd give a slight edge to the M&P15-22. The M&P is lighter and I like the controls a little better.

KushMaster, That is how my rifle came from the factory. The only modification I made was to change the rear sight to an A2 type with the carrying handle. The flash hider is installed at the factory on their M&P15-22A1.

Me no likey the Sig 522. I love the M&P15-22. As OP stated, it is light, more pointability factor, and nicer to shoot an AR platform. I can't stand the looks of the 522 especially the stock. My buddy's 522 gave out on him at the range last week. Sounds like the e clip problem. Stopped firing, bolt parts were all over the place inside the rifle and parts missing or out of place. He has called Sig since. He is pissed right now. He only had a hundred rounds on it.

Early Sig 522s had reports of some bolts coming apart, but Sig did a slight redesign and fixed the problem. The Sig is well designed and good quality but heavy. The S&W M&P15-22 definately handles better and functions exactly like a centerfire AR.
