First Post, Pics of 10/22 Build

Hi everyone, I recently joined the site and figured I'd make my first post a good one.

Recently finished building up my 10/22. Man these things are addicting, I'm already planning another!

Started with a new standard carbine and added:

Ruger 20" SS Tapered Target Barrel

Walnut DSP Stock, free floated and pressure pad installed in the front of forend

Polished Bolt. Polished inside of receiver. Installed VQ hammer, Bolt Release & Buffer.

Older "Made in Japan" Bushnell Banner 4X

Took it out a couple weeks ago and it showed some real promise.

      Welcome!!
Nice rifle..... Just wondering what is the finish on the receiver, painted black? or it kinda looks like it was bead blasted in the top photo.... Optical dilusion on my part or what.... either way looks cool....

Its a very easy install. The old barrel comes out easily (if it sticks a little pull the bolt back and let it go, it should loosen the barrel enough) then just slide the new barrel in its place. If you're using a bull barrel you'll need to widen the barrel channel on your stock or buy a new stock.

The finish on the receiver is the new Ruger "crinkle paint" they started using around 2008. I believe its on all the new models. Personally I've been debating stripping and polishing the entire receiver. I can't leave well enough alone!

In your photos it looks better that in person.... I like the photo of yours but I am not much for the look of that finish.
I have seen them striped and polished and clear powder coated and they look sweet... On yours it would look very nice....
Good luck on which ever way you go and I think you have a nice rifle now....

Nice rifle! I also picked up a 10/22 and they are very fun to shoot! In current times, it is my go-to lead flinger!

I also like the Bushnell scope, even from the pictures it looks much more sturdy than their current rimfire scopes, but then again I have heard good things about those as well.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! 10/22's are lots of fun especially when they're tuned to shoot tiny little holes. I just ordered a french walnut stock and tapered sported barrel for my next build. Now I just need to find a good donor rifle. Yes I'm addicted!

Good for you Kemper, you'll love your new rifle! I'd recommend trying lots of different brands of ammo. .22's can be picky.

How much did it cost you to polish the bolt and inside of receiver?? Or...if you did it yourself, how long did it take you?? I'd like to get that done on one of my 10/22's.

I did it myself. Used steel wool on the inside of the receiver to remove all the paint, took about an hour. Then I used 400, 800, 1200 grit sandpaper on the bolt and finished it with a Dremel polishing wheel and some compound, the whole process took a few hours. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. The bolt slides back very smoothly and silently now and the polished bolt looks nice too. If you've got a newer model 10/22 that sounds like the receiver is full of gravel when you pull back the bolt I'd definitely recommend doing this job, it makes a world of difference.
