Problem with Winchester Model 190 shooting brass back at me

My friend just gave me an old Winchester Model 190, took it to the range about 30 minutes after I got it and did some shooting. Problem is that the brass comes flying back and hits me in the head, one of the brass flew back and got in between my glasses and gave me a 2nd degree burn under my eye. How can I fix this problem???

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

Also does anyone know where I can find instructions on how to put the spring back into the gun, I cleaned it but now I cant get the spring back in

UPDATE took me an hour put I got the spring back in.

Take down manual. Wear better eye protection. There are eyes that fit over glasses.

I had glasses on, the shell came behind that.
The thing is that it should not be shooting hot brass at my head each time, who wants to get hit by hot brass in the head each time you fire..

        Shoot right-handed.

Well, then something else is going on. If your right eye is lined up with the sights, on the centerline of the rifle, it's not possible for it to eject and then curve back around and hit you in the eye. That would mean that if your face wasn't there, the shell would cross over the stock and land to the left. Not possible. Are you shooting left eye dominant and hanging your head over the stock? Maybe the shells are bouncing off your hand or arm.

Mine doesn't have that problem, but it DOES have gas blow back into my face and I'm shooting lefty, so that is the problem, since my friend who's a righty doesn't experience what I do.

These things have a really strong ejection, but it's always directly to the right, are you sure it didn't bounce off of something and get you that way? I've had that happen to me before with mine.
