I want to put a red dot on the 15-22. Don't want to spend more than $200. Which mounts to fit 15-22 rail? Quick reference for sighting. And what is "witnessing" I have read? thanks Mike

I believe the M&P 15-22 uses a "Picatinny" rail, so you will need a red dot that either has a built-in mount for a Pic rail (you might need a "rail riser" if the built-in mount is too low) or buy some extra high scope rings for a Pic rail that can house the red dot.
I use Ultradot, they're a very high quality product for around $150. Use the remaining money to purchase extra high scope rings to co-witness with your iron sights if you have them. Co-witnessing means that your red dot lines up with your iron sights so that they are both in the same line of sight.Last edited by Wolfhound9k; 04-06-2010, 11:09 PM..

I use a Sightron S33-4R on my Sig 522.
Works great. Gives you 4 different reticles to mess around with 11 manual brightness settings. Never had a problem with it.JohnComment

Bushnell Holosight...used on Ebay
I have Burris Fast Fire, J Points, Millet Red Dot, Burris Red Dot, etc and they all work about the same. Most use a 2032 Battery. All seem to project decent size and clarity.
But a Holosight is parallax free meaning head alignment is not as critical. Plus the first Generation has replacable reticles depending on what use. Integral mounts too.TURNING and turning in the widening gyre

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Best quality, UNBEATABLE Price...
I Have a Marlin 795 22lr And I am new to gun ownership.
Having said that- I bought a 40mm, paralax free, 4 reticule, 7 Brightness settings, and battery saving tech. Red dot SIGHT not scope it does not magnify.
It is an Aimsports,INC. sight bought from www.combathunting.com for $50,
they have another one that has both red and Green colors for another $10.
They mount to a 7/8 picanty/weaver rail my Marlin is 3/8 rail so I had to get an adapter from ebay for 14.99 Delivered.
AND BEST OF ALL-- Thier waranty goes out after 90days but I didnt keep the reciept(first accessory buy) all ya have to do for ANY repairs is TEN BUCKS Check/money order. I was way to zelous rotating the Mil-dot adjustment thing and broke the screw from WAY over torquing it and broke it.
A week later I had brand new one works great.
So for some real savings ya can use for ammo sighting it in get one from combathunting.com
they work great and cheap, but not at all cheaply made.Comment

this is much more than just a red dot & does have magnification too
unless you're only gonna shoot to 50-75 yds you might want some magnification
primary arms & believe it's designed/cloned similar to the elcan specter dr
i don't yet own one, but will be getting one as soon as back in inventory
have read/heard nothing but positive reports regarding this particular sight
expected to be back in stock w/in june as told via primary customer serviceLast edited by dodge; 04-07-2010, 5:41 PM.sigpic

for the 15-22 on a primary arms red dot, what do I need to mount it to the rail? And do most of you co-witness the red dot or not?Comment

I personally am not a fan of co-witnessing. Do you have BUIS on your 15-22? If you go with the PA Micro Dot, it has the default mount, which will give you a pretty low view. It has an optional riser mount, which states it'll give you a 1/3 cowitness.
I have one of these on my SR-22. I have no irons, so no cowitness. I opted for the riser mount, really hard to manipulate the emergency release IMO. I took the emergency release off and threw on a thumb screw. Works well.Comment
