Question about Ruger MKII

Hi, I got a beautiful MKII about a year ago, very happy with it. But I've noticed when lining up the sights, the barrel appears to be very slighly rotated in the clockwise direction. Here's what I am seeing:



Should I be concerned about this?

Looks ok if you would tilt the gun level.

I see what you mean. I think the best thing to do is Not Worry About It*. And shoot 10's.


*If you really must worry about it a little bit, first, the barrel unit must fit into the lower half firmly. When I got my Gov't Target Model it didn't, it was rattly. I did some research, some thinking, and used a vise at work to give the lower, wrapped in a T-shirt or something, a very scientific sort of squeeze. And I went on to shoot many, many 10's with that gun. Second, if the upper/lower fit is tight, next is the fact that the barrel is threaded in, and not all the jigs in a gun manufacturing plant are perfect. Not even at Ruger. Especially at Ruger if "Drunk Dave" was in charge lol. Yours may be very slightly off. You could pay a gunsmith to back off a tiny bit on the screwing-in of the barrel, or somehow jigger it to be perfect. Or, you could simply apply the sports psychology method of Not Worrying About it. and shoot 10's.

Thanks for the quick replies. The gun shoots great and seems to be pretty accurate (as far as I can tell with my aim, anyway )

I was more wondering if being tweaked to the side like that might cause some excessive wear over time?

Have you taken it apart yet? Not as easy as some other guns, but not too bad either - just download the manual here:

It may just be a matter of putting the 'upper' back on again. The lugs that hold it in place don't seem like something that would wear out.

Heres the fix. Just Grab the pistol grip with your right hand and the barrel with your left hand and twist it in the direction you want it to go. Might have to put some force to it a bit but it will go straight. There is some play in the upper to lower frame fit and it will move. Mine does the same thing. Try it and you will see it straighten out....
