    Paid for my M795 today....

I snagged a Marlin 795 today at Big 5 and I must say I'm quite pleased with it other than that cheesy trigger guard. I handled the 10/22 basic model also. That one, I was very not impressed with. Is the stock on the basic 10/22 even wood? It felt and looked like walmart furniture, ie particle board with "wood like grain" printed on it. WTH is up with that?? By the way people talk I was expecting something with a bit more solid feel and at least the appearance of quality. IMHO its not worth the extra 70 bucks to buy the opportunity to spend lots more money on custom parts.

I agree with what you said about the 10/22 feeling cheap for all the hype it gets. When I first checked them out I thought that stock felt way to cheap to get all that praise. But I guess most people ditch it anyways.

My roomate has the Marlin 795 and I think that if you compare both models stock, the 795 beats the 10/22 in accuracy as well!

but... you can just replace the stock, sights, trigger group, and barrel on a 10/22 and it would be better than a 795!(also cost a few hundred more at that point... why even bother buying anything but a 10/22 receiver? lol).

Almost got the 795 today but got a mosquito instead since i have a m&p 15-22. I still want to get a cheap 22 rifle. I'm really thinking about the marlin papoose. That seems like a gun i would take on my backpacking trips.

I own both, M795 and 10/22, and both stocks are pretty much crap. They're for children or small women basically, imo.

I've always contemplated buying just a 10/22 receiver but buying the trigger and other parts necessary to make it functional is no way cheaper than buying a complete rifle and less hassle involved too.

But the next 10/22 project rifle, will be the plain-jane blued model with the archangel kit and eventual cheap bull barrel.

Congrats on the new purchase. Check gunshops and pawn dealers for an older model Ruger. There is a big difference in quality. I still want an old Weatherby .22 bolt gun, worth a look.
