Just got this today from another member. What do you guys think about having the whole thing hard chromed? It only has a few specs of surface rust near muzzle and top of barrel.

It's your rifle, so you can use it for a golf club if you so choose. However, I have a M39A golden boy and love it in the condition it's in. I'm not sure they're making these types of rifles anymore, so personally I wouldn't go around bastardizing something that cannot easily be replaced. If you want to do up a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 795 or Remington 597, by all means bling it out and post pics so we can ooh and ahh, but please leave the Mountie alone!"Two dead?!? HOW?!?"

Very nice as it is. Leave it stock and sweet! While you're at it get rid of the scope too. These just shoot so nice with open sights, you'll surprise yourself. c goodComment

Just take some 0000 steel wool with some oil to those rust spots. Chances are they will buff out.Luck favors the prepared.

My heart literally started palpitating when I read the words "hard chrome" in the same post as Marlin 39a Mountie. As others have mentioned, for the love of all that's good and holy, please leave it alone. A little TLC will take care of the character spots.

I WILL NOT HARD CHROME OR ALTER MY MOUNTIE, PROMISE!
The scope came with the rifle, it's a period steel Weaver B4 and Weaver rimfire scope mount/rings don't know if it came with the rifle new or added around that time. It's a nice little scope that's still works really good.sigpicHandguns/Shotguns/RiflesComment

When I saw your post, I gagged! Sure it's your gun now, but what a crime to hard chrome such a nice blued gun. If it was rusted to hell, then do it.
